They're great shots Richard. I particularly like the hen. Love the colours

Went out in my lunch break again today and took some more shots:

I'm very lucky in that I work next door to a country park. The ivy shot has better contrast on my machine when viewed through photoshop or the image previewer. I'm guessing its some colour space thing on the browsers.

Thanks for the kind comments, guys.

      Alastair,

Yes, they were all taken with the 70-200.
I am pleased with the Lioness and Gorilla as they were shot at 200 mm through reinforced glass without a polariser. I think they came out quite well with good detail.

Great shots as well, Ish and GT. GT, I notice you have a thing for aircraft.

Suppose the advantage in not shooting means you can revisit your library. So here's one I did earlier......

Because of the compression of a telephoto lense that runway which is several kilometers long looks very very short. Those two planes are spaced miles apart so yeah the hilly bits look closer together and therefore more sever than they are.

Yes, the wonders of compression. That's why when I went to Silverstone, I thought that it was is bigger than on TV as I spent ages moving from one corner to the next. Bloomin huge!

Hi, a first time poster in this thread

After selling my Wii recently I got together some cash for a new camera and have been gradually getting to grips with dSLR photography (a lot more complicated than I thought!) I'm using a Canon 400d, with the stock lens. Really been enjoying it so far, though it's alarming the amount of photographs you discard when assessing the days selection!

So to start off, I thought I'd post a couple taken over the past couple of days in a Scottish theme! (Quality is a bit poor as i had to compress them for photobucket - anyone know a decent hosting site that allows external linkage?)

The following is quite a pretty postcardy shot of a famous Scottish Bridge...

And here's a man made waterfall at Crammond, near Edinburgh...

And finally, a swan, for some reason deciding to battle rather high waves in the sea at Crammond.

Nice pics. I like the swan.

Flickr is indeed the site to go for at the moment. If\when you sign up let us know your username and I'll add you as a contact (makes it eaiser to track new shots).

                            Thanks guys.

I really enjoy photography (until a month ago I hadn't even owned a camera (well apart from a mobile phone one).... like ever... and I'm 30). I get mocked a lot for it, but I don't know, it's just so addictive to go out walking about capturing things. I can't put my finger on why, it just seems to connect you more with your environment. Or something Love it anyway.

I also have a flickr account (under the name cavalcade) but I can't seem to link static shots like I can with photobucket? Is this possible, or do people have to physically go to flickr to see your photos?

Here you go dude, this is clickable from your static image on flickr:

The code looks like this but without the spaces so it's all one long line.
                              [ URL="http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=420552229&size=l" ][IMG]http://farm1.static.flickr.com/125/420552229_b473848470.jpg[ /IMG][ /URL]

I's a pain to do it and is fairly manual but is nice for people to be able to go back to your flickr account by clicking the image.

To get the static URL, click all sizes above the image in the photo page on flickr, choose the size and the URL will be underneath the pic.

Great start to your photography mate, keep it up.

I agree. I find it such a stress reliever.
