Once you start it's long road to emptying your wallet!

I do love my 70-200 f/4, I was a little apprehensive before I bought it due to a previous 80-200 lens being total ****e. But I've never been let down by the quality of this zoom.

I'm hoping for a lottery win so I can get the 500mm f/4 IS. I've had a go and was impressed, not so impressed with the ?4000 price tag though

Aye - glass is just so expensive, once you start lusting after the high end stuff it's debt city, but as above, it really isn't going to improve your shots to the cost ratio - so it's really for the pros or the rich ( or the deluded ). Would be nice though.

I did get a nice fat 8.5% pay rise today though ( yay for perfomance related payrises ), so that L glass is actually a little closer to being purchased if I find I like the 10D.

Git, my pay rise this year is likely to be around 2%

Went out early this morning with the ND's strapped to the front of the camera and the camera strapped to the tripod.

Nice Alastair, must get some NDs myself - I've been stuck in the house waiting for the 10D to arrive and it hasn't :/ guess that'll be next week then.

So I've been taking self-portraits, in odd frames and exposures

I've started saving for a nice piece of glass but will take me a few years to get there.

Best lens I had was the Micro Nikkor 55 2.8 which is reputedly the best lens Nikon have made.
Paid around £600 for it in 1984 which then was a lot.

Since then my lens purchases have all been of the 'consumer' variety, the pics I take are OK but I know that the sensor in my camera is capable of much more.

Nice coast shots Alastair. ND's are quite handy when the iso and f number can't go any further to slow the shutter down. I don't really use mine too much though. Think the last time I did was on the Devon coast.

              You tried ND grad filters?

Yeah, that was all I had for the old lens. Think they'd work best with a solid ND under. Will prob pick some up soon'ish.

                  Good pics everyone.

I dont have a dream lens, I would just like to learnhow to use the camera first.

We went out today and got a few snaps that once distilled had a few half decent shots. Visited an aquarium also, but shooting through the tanks was hard with the dirty and scratched tanks and the reflections.

It was also a very dull day and it didnt help that I was shooting with white balance on tungsten . Attached a couple of the files I managed to rescue. A few of the aquarium shots are on my Flickr page.

I felt the subject of this one suited older style of picture:

Both of those are great winky, really love the first one.

Been looking into this thread a bit recently, some of the shots you guys take are just magical.

Finally got out today with the nice blue skies with the D80 ( and D50 ) and took around 300 shots - I only really liked two or three. I did get a few shots of a kestrel, but it was just too far away to get any real detail, which was a bit of a shame.

Winky, is that top one in Buchanan Galleries in Glasgow? I've taken a similar shot there a few times. I really like the second one too, especially the birds.

Speaking of birds... Marty, that second shot is fantastic. It's a pity the skies are so grey, but wow, what timing!

Alastair, that creamy sea's really nice. Now I want to get some ND filters too. I'm not too near anything that was be good for long exposures in the daytime though. I think I just want more toys!

Aye it was Buchanan Galleries. The missus had to go to the loo so I passed the time from the top floor.

Marty that shot of the moorhen is fantastic, great timing

Cheers - though I actually like the building shot the most - it's not really timing when you can shoot 3 shots per second

Here's one of the Kestrel shots

thats also a good shot, I know from shooting flying seagulls yesterday that its hard to get a decent shot when they are moving.

I am also enjoying the building shot the more I look at it. It has nice contrast, and as you said the colours are great.

I find myself spending hours in Flickr now just browsing, its so easy to get lost

Loved the colours in this office so much that I had to stop and grab a few shots:
