Yeah I get your point but cameras get wet all the time and work no problems.

My dad knows a boating photographer who has cams so soaked in salt water that the casing has started to rot and hole. Still take amazing shots though just like day one.

Obviously it would be bad to get lots of water 'inside' the body but there must be a certain amount of moisture inside already for condensation to form. the condensation I experienced in India was mainly between the lens and skylight filter anyway!

Mines bound to pack up any day now

Oh no! Just checked my digital camera and it looks like the memory stick is completely empty - instead of containing all of my holiday photos. The batteries ran out while I was importing them onto my mac so only have 70 of the 180 odd on my computer. I don't see why they should have been wiped from the memory card on the camera though? Anybody know what I can do about this? Can stuff be retrieved from a memory card once deleted?

      This ****ing sucks.

You can get data recovery software for this sort of thing, have a look around on the web. I used some once for some photos (my entire collection!) and it rescued the lot. Don't get your hopes up though, it does depend on how they were 'lost'.

I'll try and dig out what the software is called and where you can get it.

Any help you can give me will be much appreciated - my girlfriend is going to chop off my balls for this

Also don't assume that if one piece of software doesn't recover them that all is lost.

I lost all of my honeymoon photos through user error (me) and tried 5 different packages before I got them back.

Depends on the camera really. Old film cameras don't suffer as much (my old A-E1 was treated very badly but never failed). But I had a canon digital that packed up through moisture (shorting a circuit was the likely cause apparently).

Anyway, you can't really worry about it. I just always assume all is OK and deal with a problem if and when it arises.

                Try this:
                http://www.download.com/File-Scaveng...-10028488.html

File Scavenger 3 - this is only a trial version but it will at least tell you if the files are still there. It's pretty easy to use, but PM me if you need a hand.

I lost a memory card due to using a card reader :/

It was a smart card for an Olypmus camera, and they have a weird format which some readers corrupt. All the recovery programs I tried didn't recover it, so I now have a 4 MB flash card.

Your memory card ( Spagmasterswift ) probably corrupted due to an unfinished write when your batteries died, so unlike my situation, chances are you'll be able to recover it with the app Pete listed.

These little buggers are devouring my garden but on the upside they're very photogenic!

Oh yeah. And anyone got tips for cleaning your camera. As you can see I have a few dust spots....

I use a Giotto Rocket blower on the sensor, seems to shift most of the spots. For ones i don't remove there's always Photoshop.

To be honest I don't think I'd do it myself, I tried for my 300V and made matters much worse (though I then sold it on, muhahaha). Send it into a local Jessops and they'll do it properly for a small fee, if they **** it up then you should get a placement or proper treatement from manufacturer.

Nice shots again Ish, I hope they aren't body parts.

Yeah I must admit I'm nervous about doing it myself. I don't exactly have a delicate touch.

And no not body parts. You can expect more of those tomorrow

Using a blower is Canon's only user clean method. Swabs are not recommended. So long as you don't touch the sensor it'll be fine. I tend not to put the tip of the blower any further than the mirror. Seems to be fine for me.
