Here's a selection I took a few years back while I was on holiday in California.

The camera's quite prehistoric compared to newer models, so errr, yeah, thats my excuse!

Decided I may as well share a link to the gallery I've just started up. So far I've put up photos from Cumbria, Cornwall and America.

I just bought one from these lovely folks: http://onestop-digital.com/

They're based in Hong Kong, and do free delivery. If you get stung for customs, they tell you to pay it, fax them the receipt, and they'll pay you back. Delivery time was about two weeks from paying - regular airmail - and they kept in touch with me throughout the process. Some real bargains on there; I just bought a NAF 50mm f1.8 for ?69.99 delivevered. In Jessops it's about ?124, and I can't find it cheaper than about ?100 on the web.

So they definitely come recommended, and they have fair stock of Nikon, Canon, and Sigma lenses, as well as other gear.

The 50mm is fab, from what I can see. Haven't had much chance to use it, but will post some results when I do. It's *so* fast
Cheers! They have the 2.8 100mm Canon Macro lens for ?318.99 ( link )...so tempting. Got paid today too >_<

Mmmmmmm, soooo tempting, though i'm wavering at the moment between the macro and the 80-200mm F4 L.

Anyway talking of macro, some milk in water (negative image using Paint Shop Pro 7)

            Hot damn! That's so neat.

            *steals idea*

Wow that milk in water is really impressive. I may also steal that idea . I love the way the main "blackness" looks like an alien version of a tadpole!

I've been playing around with the cliched "bubbles" in water today setting it against different colours and tinkering with the shots in Photoshop. Not quite got anything I'm happy with yet but am getting there.

Also got phenomenally lucky today. I was out in my garden with my camera (I always take it out there now - just in case!) and I saw a spider in a web. Went to take a snap and a fly landed in the web and the spider started to wrap it in web and get it ready for "storage" shelob style

I started snapping but unfortunately the spider was very small and I don't have a macro lens and the focussing was a nightmare (yeah yeah a shoddy workman always blames his tools). I took lots of shots of the event happening but unfortunately a lot of them are out of focus as I was too close to the spider. If I'd been further away it would probably have been too small though. Would have been an awesome sequence....

For those wondering what the positive looks like, look here www.scphoto.co.uk/pages/pictures/milky.gif - Warning it flashes so epileptics (sp?) watch out.

For added effect try to add food colour as well, i did some with blue milk which looked good. I'll have to scan them in though (i used film, remember that!)

Great - I'm looking at getting a similar lens for my Nikon, so I'll be interested in your results. Make sure to get some pics up soon

                          Yeah bought it from there

They say about 5 days delivery for items over ?200, so the earliest I'll see it is end of next week. Can't wait to give it a...um, shot.

Will certainly be posting up my disappointing results as soon as I get it

Edit - on a slightly unrelated note - when I do get this lens I'm going to be carrying around about a grands worth of kit. What is recommended for insurance? At the moment it is just down on house insurance, which is pretty scary!

Let us know how they were, i might get a lens in a few weeks (once i get my cash back from my camera).

As for insurance mines still on the house policy, but had to make sure it was covered.

                            Some specialists i've heard of:

apparantly E&L Insurance advertise in a lot of mags, people of the Amateur Photography forum seem not to like them

                              Hey lads,

I've got some old photos that were taken with a box brownie camera, their in black and white, and an unusual size..

I want to get reproductions of them.. dont have negatives or anything like that, just the prints, I was thinking of scanning them in, uploading them to one of these online photo printing sites, and getting some done..

What do you lads reckon? Whats the best resolution to scan in at? 300dpi?

Just asking as I dont want to waste my money if they wont come out right.. if anyone knows a good site...?

I have similar worries. I'm a muggers wet dream. Every day I cycle to work with a grands worth of laptop on my back, an iPod and sometimes the camera in a pannier. I got my house insurance extended on those items to cover them when they're not in my house.

@chaoticjelly: whenever scanning a new source material I always find its best to experiment with the scanning resolution and various modes and thats what I suggest you do here! Really helpful I know
