Pete - that third shot is fantastic, National Geographic

I haven't have much chance to take many photos the last week - so I currently have nothing to share :/

I've done a couple of photography courses which I found a lot of fun, it involved some theory and a lot of practical stuff, including developing and printing ( using chemicals not a printer ) your own photos. Definitely a lot of fun as I think I've said before in this thread.

Worth going along to see what it's like Alastair. There's one near me that meets once a month, really should get around to going to that - but they don't even have their own web site

I'm thinking of going along to this one as you can go for a couple of weeks for free.

All the talk of members of the RPS sounds a little too serious to me though and I don't know what to expect when I get there.
Yeah I went to evening classes but it was pretty hopeless - I was hoping to learn more about actual photography but the whole thing was Photoshop based. My local photo group is starting again in a few weeks so may pop along, I've met them before and they seem ok (if elitist!), unfortunately I'd be the youngest member by over thirty years

Thanks Marty, this one is a 'club' rather than a class/course but the programme of all the weekly events makes it sound all a bit serious. Does say they have a digital 'group' too though so may be ok.

That's probably what I'm fearing, load of old 50-60 year olds all drinking coffee and me being the new (and only) 'young'un'!!

That is what puts me off the idea, us young un's turning up with new fangled digital. I guess they're probably nice people really.

Saying all this my Dad is 62 and goes to a camera club but is exclusively digital. Think a lot of his club are digital now too. Wonder if they are all old? Maybe I should ask him?

Think I've finally found a group that forces people to explain the score they give (if they stick to the rules which they don't always) and also breaks down the score into categories.

Score the first four photos in the pool using the Official Group Score Code immediately below. Append any critique and explanation of how you arrived at your score; and then add your photo to the pool to get scored from the next four submitters. == [Official] Score Code = OSC == copy and paste all below this line == Impact: ......................... __ / 20 Creativity, Style: ........... __ / 10 Composition, Subject: .. __ / 10 Gesture: ....................... __ / 10 Lighting: ....................... __ / 20 Color: ........................... __ / 20 Processing: .................. __ / 10 Total: __ / 100 from the Score Three In Detail group. == [Official] Score Code = OSC == copy and paste all above this line == Scoring Guide Thread for what to score. I've posted to that group before and got reasonable feedback: http://www.flickr.com/groups/scoreme...7594138006839/

But like any group, it's only as good as the people that post after you - the comments and scores are just as random as any other score group.

Take a look at http://www.flickr.com/groups/mireas_realm/ - if score groups are your bag.

Well I got up at 5am this morning in order to catch the sunrise...drove all the way out to a small fishing village called Beer - figured it can't be wrong with a name like that. Well, the place is lovely, very pieceful etc etc...unfortunately nobody told the clouds to piss off out of the way. All I got was a very dull overcast sky and a fisherman looking at me strange. Oh well.

                    I got another dragonfly though.

                      Typical ain't it.

                      Great dragonfly though as compensation.

                            Got this cool humming-brid hawk-moth pic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/martypg...in/photostream

Mind, had to crop it quite tight.

This spider macro came out lots better: http://www.flickr.com/photos/martypg...n/photostream/

I love that butterfly shot, its very well taken. The spider macro is pretty scary looking, but again, very well taken!

Nice sunrise Pete, I'm still to get up early enough to see one!

Marty, good capture, is it not a humming bird moth though?

Passed the Balcombe Viaduct yesterday afternoon and had to stop for a look, really impressive place, a real patchwork of different brickwork where they restored it 10 years ago or so.

And how's this for a HDR image??

Still got more to process and upload of the viaduct though so that may not be the best.
