And does that extra .2 or .4 really make that much difference?

It's easier to go to your local Jessops to try that. Focus on a sunday isn't really the place to test lenses.

The 1.2 was around the £900 i think (thats what the current cheapo web prices are). I didn't see any prices that were better than the web.

Is it worth the extra .2, dunno but i can justify £230 rather than £900 odd

I have the £60 1.8, other than feeling a little bit cheep it's a great lens. For the price it's essential.

Indeed its a great lens, it does feel very cheap. Because it so short i found manual focusing a bit tricky with it (probably due to the bulk of the battery grip i have).

The 50 F1.2 is odd as that makes three 50s in their line up and with less than a stop between them, the 1.2 and 1.4 seem quite similar apart from price of course. Maybe they made it because they could and they know that those of us with the L disease, will buy it anyway. They also made a 50 F1 in the past!!

I have the cheapo 1.8 and it has to be said that If I could go back, I would get the 1.4 as the lack of USM gets on my nerves.

In the very distant past Canon made a sub F1 lens...almost on par with Kubricks 'special' for his filming of Barry Lyndon (around f0.6 I think)!

As for a difference in lenses...yes. The difference in depth of field rendering is significant, and you wouldn't need to be a 'bokeh fanatic' to see it.

Right, I have been seriously getting to grips with lightroom.........

You can adjust different areas of the image by clicking on the histogram. Want your exposre to be lighter; click on the middle of the histogram and drag right, want shadows to be darker, click at the left and drag left. Lovely and that explains the weird numbers on the sliders.

Next, the curves tool has targeted adjustment. CLick on the target button and then select the exact part of your image. Want to make lighter - drag up you get the idea.

HSL colour adjustment..... this is amazing and again you can target adjust.

I prefer the way it renders detail compared to RSP, that tended to over sharpen and over noise reduce, this looks more like a real piece of film. I like.

The lights out mode, huge history, it really is powerful and I am now re editing old images.

I will still print from Qimage which is so powerful and cheap - if you print buy it! and I will still sharpen from within photoshop, for now using focal blade but I really am impressed. Only weird thing is the library, I want to keep my own real folder structure but hey - the rest is amazing.

A fisheye looks interesting but I assume that it would be wasted on a crop body. Oh well, I suppose I had better save up for that 6D then....

                          Nice shots GT.

I presume the 6D is just guesswork at the moment and hasn't been announced yet?

                            Ta Pete.

6D might be the next step or even a 3D. Not too sure when that'll be. In september the 5D will be 2 years so probably due to be replaced. That said the 30D is 18 months and is the more likely to be replaced (though some say it might be announced at the PMA show next week). Also the 1Ds Mark II is almost 3 years old. I personally doubt Canon would replace 3 bodies at the same time.

All that aside, the 5D will still be a capable camera for a good few years yet (same goes for the 10,20,30,300,350,400)
