Cheers dude. That whole portability is what's tempting me; it can be a bit stale stuck at the same desk all the time. I assume the photo portion of iLife is basic at best - photoshop or aperture the best bet on a mac?

I'd recommend Lightroom over Aperture personally. I don't really get on with Aperture actually, and I believe that the RAW conversion quality is much better in Lightroom or Photoshop.

Photoshop is in it's own league, but it is a much more involved process.

I used Lightroom for almost a year now (in beta for a while, then the full app). It's transformed the way I work on most of my images. Both Aperture and Lightroom are available on a 30 day trial, so might be worth a look at. Adobe are about to release Photoshop Elements 6 for the Mac, so that might be worth trying.

I did try aperture on my MacMini, but to be honest it's too bloated an app for my machine. I wouldn't ask the question on any Apple websites as the fanboys will tell you Aperture all day long.

I wouldn't worry about the Macbook, I initially thought 1280x800 would be too small. It's fine for me, that said I do use my MacMini more.

          Thanks for your help guys

I currently use Elements 6 on my PC and find it does the basics very well, so I know that's a good option if necessary. I'll certainly trial the others though and see how I get on. I'm looking at a few Sony Vaio's as well, as they seem quite well specced for the money (as much as a Sony branded product can be, natch), and would then allow me to use my current software.

I'm glad the screen size/resolution isn't a problem, as that was my main concern.

              Nice images Steve.

Thought I'd revisit one of my previous images, but from a different side

Good snaps. I like the skies in all of them

Still waiting for my camera, but been playing with the Sony in the meantime:

Inspired by Alistair's "Poker Face?" shot. Also done on a timer. Didn't expect it to be so tough to time the throw!

                    Snaaaake!

Nice stuff Pete. Must've been a nightmare getting those cards in focus! Maybe we should have a thread-wide poker face tournament?

I lent my favourite lenses to a friend over the weekend, so I was restricted to my 50mm, which is a bit too long for my liking, but whatthehey. So I went wandering down the South Bank with a friend and took a few that I quite liked:

I'm not sure inspired is a strong enough word Pete, try 'stolen from' or a 'rip-off of'

Like your one better actually mate, great shot.

Steve, like your latest shots too.

Thinking about doing an "inspired by flickr" set to show how uncreative I am.

Yeah it's quite a cool thread reading from the start, we seem to have less people posting in here than we did back in 2005 when it started though. We should do a forum open day
