Sorry Alastair I did mean to comment on your pics - I really like the blue tones you've captured in the 2nd pic of #4198 - the cat pic above is funny - I'm sure the flickr massive will love it

Great snaps all. I added a few comments to Flickr for the ones I really like.
Marty I like the picture you have on Picassa. Its a picture of a building which isn't boring. I guess I can see what you mean about it being over exposed, but I didn't really notice. There is colour in the sky and the tree in the foreground takes up most of it.

I travelled all over bloody Scotland this weekend. And I finally seen some sunshine! Taking pictures is much easier when the sun is out I find (feels like it has been perpetually grey for weeks).

I bought myself a cheap zoom lens for my trip up north, which I am loving, really helps with the wildlife shots.

This is my favorite of the weekend, purely because its the most interesting picture I have ever taken :P

That's just super - print it out and hang it on your wall

That's a great shot Winky, very interesting indeed.

Ali - cracking shots from your trip. Really like the b&w.

            Love that shot winky!

Some good shots too Alastair, especially the B&W and the waterfall.

I was oot today, another beautiful sunny day. The zoom lens I bought at the weekend has a macro mode (1:2) which is nice for big critters like this:

Its not the best, but at least my manual focus is improving I had no idea that taking pictures up close would be so bloody difficult.

I feel I have made great progress recently. I take a lot fewer pictures now and much less PP too. I just need to think about composition more because most of the pictures are pretty boring, even to me.

Still got a load more from my day today to load up but there is nothing really exciting. I nearly maanged to catch a greater spotted woodpecker but he was so far away the picture is primarly trees

Aye, people think macro photography is easy - it definitely is not if you want sharp pics with dof - I have so many throw away shots for every good one.

I can't believe my carpet munching pic won the Pick Your Poison Bring me the head of challenge on flickr - I won't post it here as it's just too scary. Linky though.

                  haha well done

I seen that picture last night and after it I had to log off and promised myself I would never visit your photographs again

Thanks guys, nice monitor shot winky, macro is really not my thing, just generally, not anything against your shot. Some more holiday shots I hope you like.

Much better in big the second one if you go to flickr and view.

Great shots. I notice the weather is a bit grey at the Dee. I travelled from Dundee to Achnasheen (via Braemar) on sunday, and it was dull for most of the way. I crossed the upper Dee on my journey. Not really sure why I am telling you this...

Anyway its great that you have geotagged your pictures, I am a bit obsessive about that

Alastair - that smooth water is super cool, I do find the grass in the bottom of the frame somewhat ugly though - reminds me again to look for some NDs.

I got my 28mm f2.8 M42 lens today - I shall have a play on the way to work tomorrow morning. I also got a message from the eBay seller for the D70, so maybe he will actually sell at £220 after all ( I did post about that eBay win didn't I?)

Edit - ah I didn't. I got a D70 + 2 lenses + SB600 + some other accessories for £220 - I was getting the impression the seller was stiffing me due to the low sale price - says he'll give me a postage cost tomorrow ... we'll see ...

I love that grassy stuff, the detail is insane in it at bigger sizes, you did check the big version didn't you I think it off sets the smoothed out water nicely. To each his own though. You're addicted to cameras by the way!

Winky, the sky was drab and overcast all holiday except the days we spent mostly in the car, typical. Think I went through Braemar

                            Wowz!
Some really great stuff in the last couple of pages here. It's totally unfair having to try and keep up with you guys!

Alastair, those are just phenomenal. The ND'd water is so creamy and smooth... That second trio of pictures you put up are a perfect little selection.

Winky, how the eff are you taking such great pictures? You've got one hell of an eye.

All I've got to offer right now are a couple of foresty ones I took last week:

Edit: And one more from Glasgow this weekend. Why aren't I in bed instead?

I did but it but it doesn't work for me - the water is soft and flowy, the grass is harsh and rough - like you say, to each their own

You're addicted to cameras by the way!
But it's a bargain! SB600 cost nearly ?200 on their own, let alone coming with all the other stuff

While the grass is nice and sharp, cropping a thin strip off the bottom does stop it overpowering the image. Which is really nice, btw. You've gone ND mad ...with sexy results.

Marty, how does an M42 adapter ring work. I've been on the cusp of getting one for my 400D for a while now, but I just can't seem to understand how it copes with adjusting the aperture. Can you manually do it on an M42 lens, similar to the focus or something?
