I agree the ref did step in quite early. Gomez did look a bit unsteady when the result was being announced though. Maybe just the adrenaline wearing off?

i'm quite unimpressed with khan, he throws very flashy fast but lightweight combos and gets hit far too easily.
plus he was boasting about only 1.5% body fat, great if you are a body buillder type but I seemto recall both Benn & Bruno having trouble with this as it ment they couldn't store energy for longer fights (or something like that).
i think he could be very good but seems to be getting into bad habits and isnt being well trained.
first decent top level european or top 15-20 world rank fighter he comes up against and at present i think he'll be in trouble

that result been coming for a few fights, I've said it before but he was far too sloppy and believed his own hype.
I'm a bit of an old school fight fan, its fine to be flash when you have a few world title defences under your belt but when you shout your gob off like him having achieved very little, then actually believe it, its a recipe for disaster.
Not sure about his temperament at all, I think he could go like Naz and not take the defeat well.
I like my fighters a bit humble and respectful, like Ricky Hatton, Marvellous Marvin and even Tyson to a degree.

Breidis Prescott came into this fight with a prior record of 17 KO wins (11 within two rounds) from 19 fights and no losses, so clearly he was a banger even though his level of opponent wasn't much to speak of (though I don't see how that matters - if a guy can punch, he can punch!). The warning was there. The suggestion is that Khan's Cuban trainer Jorge Rubio played a part in recommending Prescott to Warren (though I think that Warren played more than his fair part in this than he's letting on, unsurprisingly). If so, I would assume that he has been (or will be) given his marching orders very soon.
It's a damaging defeat in the mental sense. Khan can come back from this, but his inability to take punch has been well and truly exposed. Rest assured that Frank Warren will now wrap him up in cotton wool and then some, keeping him well away from anybody with even the slightest bit of punching power. Also, he doesn't seem to have heeded the lessons from fighting Limond and Gomez and added any defensive skills to his game, which doesn't bode well at all for the future.
Finally, I have to say that it's truly disgusting and saddening to see how so many have now turned on Amir when they were probably singing his praises 1-2 years ago. There was a post-fight phone-in on BBC R5 Live and you wouldn't believe how many "armchair boxing experts" have crawled out of the woodwork to slate Khan for this, and that's not even mentioning various forums in and around the Internet. Talk about the classic British "build 'em up, knock 'em down" cliché. Disgraceful. He doesn't deserve that, and I'm saying this as somebody who wouldn't pay £15 PPV to watch the fight last night - that decision has to go down as another one of a series of incredibly poor management decisions from Warren and the Khan camp. Expect heads to roll over this.Last edited by Nu-Eclipse; 07-09-2008, 09:56.
