Regrettably, if you have no experience outside of retail or further education then retail is probably all you can hope for at this point.
If you have any passions outside of gaming, then see if there's a college course associated with that you could do.
Change career I am in the process of doing it right now and I'm a year older than Chris so it's not impossible
(I changed from drug rehab stuff and office based to to being a trainee chef)

Ever thought about teaching in Japan, Teddymeow?
I'm certain you're a Japan enthusiast, and TEFL courses can be done in a few weeks and aren't outrageously expensive.
I think.
Certainly something I've been seriously thinking about given this illustration career of mine is progressing very slowly.
Hope things work out. Whether it's GAME/GS being saved or a new job.

Wow, I started this thread five years ago.
Since then, I've been to college, and am about to finish a degree at uni. So thanks to anyone that suggested that!
Soon I'll just be regular unemployed again instead of having "I'm a student" to fall back on. Thank goodness the Tories are doing such a brilliant job at creating jobs in the UK, I'm sure I'll have no trouble at all finding work!!!

lets be honest education really means nothing these days unless of course its law or medicine. Whilst I'm sure the Tories haven't exactly been brilliant in creating jobs, there are jobs out there its just there are far too many people who'd rather sponge from the government then get a job. Sadly that culture has also created too many people whom arent capable of employment too. /rant

In my experience, being educated will DISqualify you from non-skilled jobs. I assume the employers think that if you have a degree, you won't be planning on spending the next ten years stacking shelves, and they don't want to have to find someone else to fill the position when you jack it in for something less degrading.

Yeah. Been looking for five months here, and had one interview to show for it. Frankly, it is somewhat dispiriting. Not the length of time per se, but the sheer lack of interest. I've got various helpdesk support skills, I know stuff in general, I can blaze maths, write pretty well, and yet apparently no one is willing to give me a shot at something that's near what I can do.Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Never thought id find myself writing on this thread, but here i am.
On the 15th of march I got called into the office and told that, with immediate effect, I was to be made redundant. The building I worked in was being sold and all members of staff where being let go by the end of the year. Because I was the last one in, I was the first one out.
I moved to Birmingham to try and make a better life for myself, but yet again life kicks me in the gutter. I'm sure ill get another job, but i can't help being pissed off about it. Still, the job was ****, so maybe its for the best.

Not been made redundant, but recent goings on at the office have pissed me off so much that I'm convinced a new job is needed.
I've always been confident my CV is a good representation of my skills and experience but with record unemployment and more people going for jobs than ever before, are there any tips and tricks out there to make yourself stand out amongst a sea of CVs?
I'm a marketing professional, experienced, degree specialised and some CIM modules under my belt but on temporary hiatus. I'm not applying for jobs leagues above my current experience but am at that crucial stage where I could make it into the next pay scale with the right opportunity.
