Ahh emptying the shelves. I frequently do that with St Peters Extra Stout at the local Budgens. I used to get funny looks from the checckout staff but they know me by now

Burton Beers again for me tonight. I've kicked off with a Bramble Stout. But am about to sample a Tickle Brain. 8%. Wish me luck

All this Burton beer is anticipation of my annual pilrimage to Burton in 2 weeks time. Where I plan on spending many hours in the Burton Bridge Inn and the Coopers Tavern. And other pubs . I really can't wait!

Swallow - if you still read this thread and notice a group of 3 drunk 30ish blokes around the 16th then pop over and say hello

Well the Tickle Brain is rather nice. Its a slow one to sup but its flavoursome without having that cloying sweetness you often get with strong beers.

      8/10

Burton Bridge New Empire Pale Ale - wow wow wow. Really nice old school IPA. Just delicious. Though at 7.5% after the last one my judgement may just possibly be impaired.

A few cheekies out in Durham for me tonight.

        Wylam - Landlord's Choice - 4.6%. Not my choice. 7/10.

Big Lamp - XXV 25th Anniversary - 4.2% - can't believe I got a pint of this. Only a few barrels made to celebrate the brewery's anniversary. I was under the impression that only some pub in Gateshead was going to get it. Went into the Victoria in Durham and there it was. Even better - I had a pint and when I next went back to the bar it was off - they'd done their barrel - all gone. Toffee all the way yet not too chewy. Absolutely fantastic. 9.5/10.

Mordue - Five Bridge Bitter - 3.8% - after the XXV it had a lot to live up to. Totally different, hoppy with a strong bitter after taste. 8/10.

Wylam - Gold Tankard - 4.0% - had this before at the Corbridge Beer Festival. Nothing's chaged, a really easy to drink light beer. 9/10.

Big Lamp? Big Skank more like.

Wychwood Pumpking - 8/10; very much like hobgoblin at first but got tastier down the bottle.

Young's Christmas Pudding - 9.5+/10 - superb, just as flavoursome as I'd remembered.

These boys were a nice accompaniment to the last 6 episodes of 24.

Picked myself some Christmas Pudding up for this evening. Looking forward to sampling it later. I'd actually gone to get some Landlord but some filthy swine had "emptied the shelves".

Good stats. There's always some selfish bastard wanting to piss on your chips.

Just went to the local near my sister's house, a Thwaite's pub. Had a few pints of Thwaite's Wainwright which was right nice.

Good bit of steak and ale pie, too....

Had a pint of that in Keswick before panting and wheezing up Walla Crag. Great beer, but not wise on a roasting hot day going up a fell.

Wouldn't be surprised if they had Jennings make it for them, given it's aceness and Lakeland theme.

Then again, Thwaite's are pretty good brewers.

As for Fell walking, I've found mineral water and Haribo are the best companions.

lol that's more sensible. IIRC it was a pint and a half of Thwaite's Wainwright and a curry before the ascent. Suicide!

Had a pint of this today:

And it was yummy. Soft and fruity, a session ale that gets 8.5 out of 10.

Not sure this is the best place but i tried a bottle of Asahi Black tonight on a friends recommendation. God this stuff was crap, i had high hopes and it certainly looked a good glass nice colour and smell but it was so flat and flavorless. You can rest assured my friend will be getting a slap when i see him.

Also in other news i found a great beer shop in the middle of York city center which stocks a ton of stuff i've not tasted before. Today i picked up a bottle of Wonky Donkey because i saw it in this thread and a bottle of the Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout. I had hoped they might have BlackWych but it wasn't to be. They also had bottles of Centurions Ghost which was cool because i didn't realise York Brewery bottled it.

Both of these are beauties - you'll be glad you got them.

Last night I mostly drank bottles of

Joseph Holt's 1849 (very nice for a dark ale)
                                Roaring Meg (a personal favourite)
                                Fursty Ferret (decent enough)

Later I have bottles of Bateman's Combines Harvest, and Thwaite's Liberation to get through.
