i told plough boy all about it

It's weird how nice Cumberland Ale is on draught and yet it's just runk when it's bottled. I've known more ales that work better the other way round.

Still, Cocker Hoop is nice bottled so at least all the Jennings stuff isn't dreadful from the offie.

            The only downside with beer!

I should be heading out tonight (first time in ages to be honest) to one of the local real ale pubs. I look forward to a completely fresh set of delights waiting for me.

That sediment reared it's ugly head in the middle of the night. One of them stank so much it actually woke me up.

good luck on the exped. don't forget your notebook

A particularly keen friend of mine once ate the yeasty foam scraped off the top of his homebrew. He put in his sandwich.

I think it did strange things to his insides.

                  haha best thing ever.

My one and only foray into homebrew - VP drank a bottle and quacked non-stop for 3 days. Always similar volume, length and consistency

                    Fuller's Old Winter Ale

Dark and woody, has plenty of nose.

Well tasty tbh - the texture, although slightly gassy, feels like you're drinking a cask pint.

                    8.5/10

                    edit:

y'know. this is pushing a 9. Gets better in the bottom of the glass. For a start, there's no sediment to thrash you.

I drank far too much Youngs Winter Warmer last night. Its 5% but just too drinkable. One of my favourite beers. A good solid 9/10.

Also had a few pints of Titanic Stout. Very good. Slightly smokey. Beautiful. Another 9/10.

And Titanic Flagship which the barmaid described best - its like drinking pudding. Also... 9/10.

A whopping evening for quality real ale. Thoroughly enjoyed every pint. Shame about the state of my guts this morning. I think my bowel and bladder have got confused.

Dunno if they've been mentioned previously in here, but on Saturday to nurse my cocktail induced hangover from the previous night I treated myself to three nice bottles. I started with a bottle of Wells Banana Bread, just because I love it and it's been ages since I had one, but then had two that were new to me.

Badger - England's Gold. Really light and fruity, I love Badger's ales, I think they're possibly my favourite brewery - it's a close run thing against Skinners though.

Badger - Poacher's Choice. How much did I enjoy this? Warm, rich and gorgeous, perfect winter beer. mmmmmmm.

Banana Bread has split the thread, a truly acquired taste.

Badger's finest are superb, but I've had one or two stinkers!

Everard's Original - 5.2% - 8.5/10. Maybe 9 if I was to have a session, because it is ... a session beer. Nice creamy head and hoppy texture. Yum yum.

I don't know what peoples opinions of IPA's are but i've just had a bloody lovely one by an American brewery called Goose Island. This is their website

Discover Goose Island Beer Company, Chicago's Beer. Learn more about upcoming beers, discover upcoming beer events & more.

They do plenty of stuff and im determined to hunt down more of them.

It has to be one of the most fruity tasting beers i've ever had but with that great IPA bitter note at the end.

IPA's are great. I think they were brewed to sustain a longer shelf life on their way to service the soldiers and administrators in colonial India, a beer brewed in almost a lager-style.

Two halves of Old Tom tonight at the Lloyd's Bar in the Quayside, where the Wetherspoon's beer festival had only one new beer on cask and 3 with 'coming soon' on them (ie, never).

                                A tasty beast.
