Got an e-mail from O2 today. The problem with my phone isn't covered by the warranty apparently! Livid, feckin' livid!!

I'm going into the store tomorrow and threatening to cancel my Direct Debit unless they sort it.

Got my Nexus S the other day and really like it. Can't figure out why the headphone jack is on the bottom, or why it keeps switching the live wallpaper back to the default one. Hmm.

Honestly, just send it off to HTC, I bet they are far more helpful

Have you not got insurance with you carrier?

Incidentally, on the water damage front. It's illegal for them to refuse to repair a phone just because one of those sensors have been triggered. They need to be able to prove the fault was caused by water and those sensors aren't proof (they're only proof at some point they got damp).

Nope. I get insurance through my bank account. That's besides the point.

Went into O2 and they were confused as to why the quote had been drawn up. They reckon it was damaged in transit. I've sent a ****ty email telling them I want a new phone or I'm going to trading standards.

I got a Nokia 5800 off ebay. It was fully boxed. The box has stickers on it about "your virgin mobile phone" and the barcode sticker with imei on says Virgin mobile. The phone only works with a virgin sim (I've tried vodafone and 3).

Last weekend I phoned Virgin for an unlock code. They said it wasn't recognised by their equipment and it wasn't a virgin mobile, but they could still provide a code and they would forward it to the finance dept (???wtf) to deal with it and that I would hear back in 7 days. No reply yet, so I just phoned them and they said it wasn't forwarded to any other dept and that it's not a Virgin mobile and they can't help. I presume the first person just needed a "case solved" tick for the day (got rid of me fast).

                  Great.

Anyway, if I go to an independent phone shop on the high street will they be able to unlock it?
A bit frustrated because I have already got my vodafone sim sitting here waiting to use and virgin just mucked me about for a week. I went sim-free with vodafone because I was happy with the phone. Bah.

I phoned my current carrier / provider a month ago for the unlock code to my old phone. 'No problem, that'll be ?30, please', they said. I was in a bit of a daze, started moaning (which I never do), and they promised to POST it for free. The 30 quid would have given me an instant text with the code. I never got the letter.

Depending on where you live, there will be shops that will unlock it for between 5-10 quid. I don't know if the actual retailers can do that, it's usually the dodgy second hand / repair shops that do it near me. Or you can google the model number and what you need, there's sites that charge via paypal and then text you the code. OR you can try and find the code for free, but make sure you have adblock / noscript etc etc turned on as some of the results google gives will be extremely dodgy.

Got an e-mail telling me my phone is repaired, back in store & ready for collection.

I'm going in with the box tomorrow of the opinion that

                      A) If the screen did need fixing it's because somebody else broke it and I'm not prepared to have it

                      or

                      B) If it didn't need fixing why are you trying to screw me out of money? I'll take a new handset for the inconvenience.

                      Watch this space.

Went to an indie shop and they unlocked it in 5 mins. ?20. Sorted.

I'm now with vodafone - Lucy was already on it and they gave her a suresignal for free with her new contract because we don't get any reliable signal downstairs in the house (on any network). It took forever to get it to work (in the end I had to disable the firewall on the router for an hour while the suresignal configured itself and then turn the firewall back on afterwards), but now it's great. Full power 3.5G signal in the house. And I've enabled QoS on the router so that the Suresignal MAC gets Expedited Forwarding (i.e. priority over everything). I tried disrupting Lucy's call on purpose via massive traffic surge from my PC but couldn't dislodge it. The QoS was probably the most straightforward thing ever

Anyway, so I switched to vodafone. For 15pcm (12month) I got 600mins a zillion texts, 500MB and free calls to other vodafone users. Seemed reasonable.

                          That's not bad at all.

I pay CA$65 for unlimited texting, 500MB and 200 minutes a month outgoing...AND INCOMING. Every time I change my plan I get pissy with Telus for that BS. Paying for incoming calls!? Is this the 1800s??

Just updated my phone to Windows 7.5 and my oh my it's pretty damn slick.
Impressed with all the improvements, some things which should have been there from day 1 of course like battery information and multi-tasking.
Apparently this is rolling out from 23rd September onwards.
Xbox Live Extras won't be getting re-installed that's for sure, xbox live tab is now just like 360 guide button fast, responsive and all that needs to be done close to hand. Speak to text feature works well, although it still doesn't quite understand scottish. Browser is super fast now and I can even post on this forum once again from mobile YAY!

So Windows phone finally gets basic functionality that other smartphones have had for a decade, yay. Don't suppose they've done over the ridiculously basic front end and app listing though? Until they do that mine's staying in the draw.

To be fair Apple took longer to implement copy paste and multitasking on iOS than ms did on win phone 7.
