Amazon cancelling their contract will hurt Royal Mail big time. It only needs someone like DHL, Citylink etc. to start moving into the smaller items market and they could end up with people and companies switching en masse.

I buy a lot through Amazon and it's always arrived next day (via Prime). I can't say I pay any attention to who delivers it, but it's still next day as always.

I think it's great there's all these other options in place for getting parcels delivered. People and companies can vote with their wallets. Of course, the upshot is that people going on strike may not have jobs to go back to. I'm sure they were told this though when being urged to go on strike.

Its nothing new though. Amazon have done the same in the past during strikes.

Looks like ShopTo are offering next day delivery via UKMail for £1.99 during the strike period. They're also going to be offering the service after the strikes finish too, but I think it goes up to £2.99 after that.

Argh, wish they had that before the strike. 7 days later and my next day Flashpoint 2 still hasnt turned up. I think from now on, when its offered, i'll be using courier for deliverys.

Bloke at work emailed Game today asking them if his Forza 3 will be affected by postal strikes. They emailed back saying they can't post games early (!?!) but suggest he upgrade his order to courier if he wants. So he replied back saying upgrade it... they replied back saying "sorry, can't do that, you'll have to cancel and re-order" lol. I think he will do the first bit, and then see where else he can re-order it from.

Same sort of thing but I hope no one's dead set on getting Forza 3 through the post for launch day because...

Ah UK Mail... The company that stuck a package in my recycling bin when I wasn't in.

But meh, with Royal Mail. Let them strike and then the workers can deal with their revenue plummeting. We're in a recession, not the best time to get public support, especially given it'll hurt struggling businesses.

I'm not a fan of public services holding the innocent public to ransom, especially when we then have to indirectly pay for their pay awards or lesser workload.

good job i'd seen this as i was going to chance the strike would not happen next week but i have cancelled it just incase.

i'll take a trip to the local blockbuster and order it there.

Ignore, sorry, broke my promise to myself.

I know if I was running a mail order concern like Gameplay I'd be quietly shipping the stuff out early at the start of next week to make damn sure it got there by launch.

If you're reliant on the post to maintain your business, I'd rather face whatever wrath the distributor would give you for breaking the street date rather than have a thousand nerds all wailing at you simultaneously

But then losing your distributor can lead to massive increases in wholesale prices and delays for customers anyway. Even worse, you could be hit by fines depending on your contract terms.

Actually GAME seem to be working on some sort of solution. They've just twatted

Just to let you know we're working on post strategy for online orders during the Royal Mail strike. I'll update you when it's confirmed.
Then again their strategy could just be "we'll send them out as usual"

GAME need to, I've cancelled all my pre-orders with them and suspect I'm not alone.
