Lots of snow here today. It's been a slow, but steady downpour. So much so, they shut the college early and sent all us staff home. Best of all, I should've finished at 7 today as I'm on a late shift, but I left at 4. Woo!
All being well, the snow will continue overnight and I won't need to go in tomorrow...

Decided to clear all the snow (8 inches) that was on the car and make sure it could still start. At least that went successfully. The wipers are superglued to the windows, and I can't scrape all the ice off the windscreen, so I imagine I'll be back out tomorrow with a bucket of warm water to see to them...Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Not a huge amount of snow here in NW London but the temp has been minus 2 or lower all day and the problem has been ice and particularly black ice.
The main roads are fine, the pavements along the main roads are fine but in all the residential areas it is mine field of ice and compacted snow on pavements and roads. No salting/gritting at all.
Nearly wasn't here - walking back from my supermarket main shop after almost going A over T a couple of dozen times I was within 100m of home before I was well and truly 'done'. It was so cold one my (reused) plastic bags bottoms just dropped out, the weight change threw me off balance and as luck would have it I was in the middle of an ice sheet. Bam, no chance of softening the blow as I was carrying bags in each hand, flat on my back and head hits the pavement with considerable force.
Here's the good part - before I went to the supermarket I'd bought a ski hat (Debenhams sale ?4.95) and was wearing it so most of the impact was absorbed by the turned up rim. A bit dazed and embarrassed but that's it, no bump or bruise to show it had even happened. The hat was a spur of the moment purchase and the first time in 30+ years I've worn a one outside! Lucky or what?
