I suppose that's the problem with calling it red ring of death. The ring is only red when, like you say, the AV cable's removed.

Funny story - I got a 360 for a tenner that had been 3RL-repaired by some company and you know what they've done? They've wired it up to never show red lights at all, even if there's no AV cable
