With the phrase "Trust me I'm a solicitor" you can be held responsible for any advice you impart.
If you "Trust me I'm a lawyer" - you can't.
I thought that was pretty handy, the difference being that solicitors are officers of the court and "lawyers" aren't recognised by the British judiciary.
