By total accident I've just discovered the source of that mysterious smell that's been haunting me for the last 12 months!

I'm sitting at the computer tonight and get a strong wiff of it - I move forward (sniffer dog style) and come end up sniffing the door frame (and yes, it was as weird looking as it sounds).

Lo and behold, there's the smell! It's the paint that's been used to do the door surrounds and skirting boards! Must have been warming up from the heat a the back of the computer / games consoles and causing a stink.
