Is it too much to ask that, in the year 2010, science can create an umbrella that doesn't turn inside out when you breathe on it?

Umbrellas are for girls and those that carry man-bags.

Anyone got any tips for preventing condensation in a flat?

I live in a one bedroom flat and my heater is in the living room. I am having quite a problem with condensation and the associated mould that goes with it in the bedroom.

With my heater being in the other room I worry that the bedroom isn't warm enough, it's fine for me but may not be the best temperature to prevent condensation.

So, question: should I be looking to increase the heat in that room or should I being trying to ventilate it more by opening the windows (kind of reluctant to do that because it is Novemeber and all).

I bought a small dehumidifier this morning to help but it won't cure the problem. Any advice?

Is something leaking? e.g. a slow drip from somewhere? At an old flat, the radiator was dripping slowly so made everything humid and damp. Too ages to find that was the problem.

How's the glazing? It gathers because of the difference in temperature between the two sides of the glass I think - decent double glazing should minimise it.

And if it's an upstairs flat with a roof space above, ask the landlord about any insulation up there. If the loft isn't adequately ventilated then it can contribute to a build up of condensation.

                              Nothing leaking and double glazed.

So if the room is warmer than outside (for obvious reasons) I guess I need to ventilate it more then?

Whenever cooking always stick the dehumidifier on max, especially if you've got gas as that's one of the biggest sources of water vapour in a flat. In fact using a dehumifier should almost completely fix the problem as without moisture in the air you can't get condensation. Is the mould just on the window seals or elsewhere as well?
