I need to find a new job myself soon as well, as hours are getting worse and worse at the indie I work in. Even at full time rates it was crap pay and I'm just dreading how flimsy my paycheck will be for January.
This was meant to be tempory work while I found something more substantial, but I've been here for over five and a half years now, and I can feel my degree just wasting away the longer I stay on. A lot of the fun aspects of the job have gone and stuff like staff discounts are practically irrelevant now. Any advice on the job hunting scene from an ex-indie ?

2008 hasn't been to bad to me so far. The extra hours off have allowed me to focus more on my writing, something I haven't done much of since University so many years ago now. And thanks to MarioMark's cold turkey thread I haven't spent a penny on gaming so far so I'm hoping I won't feel the pinch so much when my pay cheque arrives. May have to continue this cold turkey thing a little longer.

When out at lunch today with a mate, we went to Cosmo, our local friendly stuff-your-face-as-much-as-you-can-with-exotic-oriental-cuisine-for-£6.50 place. When arriving, I noticed the music being piped about the place was quite loud and once we had sat down to eat our piled high plates of MSG, I realised what I was listening to - it was a Chinese gentleman singing, who clearly thought he was Sinatra and was singing about the fact that 'Jesus loves you'!
Then a little later, the manager was stood behind the bar on the phone, speaking to someone about his Chocolate Fountain - how it wasn't working and that Dustin Hoffman must come from Germany and fix it asap apparently!! Say that all with a Chinese accent and it is both bizarre and hilarious
All in all, a very strange lunch hour indeed!!

Any other (IT) contractors on here? Feel sick and tired of being dicked about (lied to basically) by agencies. Have lost sleep over a recent incident (which seems to happen every time I change contracts). Its making me consider giving up contracting and going back to being permanent.
Do they mess anyone else about, or is it just me?

I went into one yesterday to hand in a CV for a permanent job they had in the window, then the next minute the woman grabs my CV and says we'll call you when something comes up.
I then walked out of the building thinking "what have I just applied for?"

Recruitment Agencies are a law until themselves yes, as Chris said they will make up fake jobs or leave (good) jobs advertised that were filled weeks ago.
End of the day though, if they don't fill positions they don't get commission, so it is in their interest to find you employment.
Lots of companies won't use Recruitment Agencies though (due to them charging around 20 to 25% of the first years salary as a fee).
