Famous last words yesterday. Federers getting walloped off Tommy Haas. If he pulls this out of the bag from 2 sets down, he will deserve to win this tournament
Unbelieveable. He's won from 2 sets down. This could actually work in his favour now as to come back like that in a last 16 match on clay could give him soaring confidence for the QF.Last edited by NemesiS; 01-06-2009, 13:39.

Roger Federer has won the French open.
At last he's done it. With or without Nadal on the other side of the net he has now guarantee'd himself legendary status.
The greatest player ever now imo. I just hope he wins wimbledon to go out in front of Samprass so the naysayers have nothing left to pull him on.
Great result. He totally blew Soderling away and fully deserved the title after his run to the final.

I don't follow tennis as much as I used to but I made sure to tune in for this. Really enjoyable moment and very emotional, especially when the tears started flowing during the national anthem. Quite appropriate too that he managed to match the record by winning the one grand slam that had eluded him so far.
It's hard to see him not putting a bit of distance between him and Sampras in the record books now. I agreed with the commentator on Eurosport who said that he may now get back to the form he had a couple of years ago now that the monkey of winning the French and matching Sampras is off his back.

Yeah i agree. Like you say, now he's got the monkey of the french open off his back and equaled samprass' record to boot, his confidence will be sky high going into Wimbledon.
I must admit i thought he played great today. All his old finesse was back, his touches and unreturnable shots and his overall work rate. He has been in a bit of a slump with Nadal becoming a bit a nemesis for him in finals the last 18 months or so. I actually don't think federer went to playing ****e. I just think everyone else caught up to his standard.
Thats tennis tho. You can't stay top dog forever and Nadal will find that out in a few years time if his knees don't give in by then.
Also although he doesn't need to now, i wouldn't be surprised if Federer won the French a couple more times now.
