Depends on the tournament - the Grand Slams get you 2,000 points for a win and the others 1000, 500 or 250. There are about 6,000 points in the tournaments left and Murray is a 3K behind, so it would appear technically possible (although players don't enter every tournament).

Yeah, I looked at the US Open page on Wikipedia to see how many points he'd gained from winning. Then of course they also lose the points they got from the previous year's tournament, so with that combo he caught up 2,080 points on Djokovic but only 1,640 on Federer.

I suppose if Murray won a couple of tournaments he did badly in last year, while Federer and Djokovic went out early in tournaments they'd done well in, he could do it. Probably a long shot though, without any more big points from grand slams on offer.

Hooray! Stick that in your craw personality vacuum Henman! Not a serious point, but I've never understood the haters. I had wondered if he would ever quite make it, especially with the dominance of the other three. I went to sleep last night after Djokovic took control of the match in the fourth set and fully expected him to lose, but delighted he won. I don't think most people properly appreciate just how hard it is to get to number 4 in the world, let alone win a grand slam.

Congratulations to Murray, still don't like him but have said for the past couple of years that he'll win a Grand Slam one day as his standard was getting better year on year and also the US Open was his best chance.

Personally I can see him going on to win quite a few more, Federer is coming to the end of his career and Nadal looks like he's not got that many tournaments left either. Del Potro will come into the mix but for for all intents and purposes I'd say it's between him and Djokovic going forward as certainly Murray will go from strength to strength from now on.

Managed to catch the end of the Murray vs Federer in the Aussie Open semi-final. Turned it on as Murray was serving for the match in the fourth set only to see Federer break him and go on to win the tie break. Great mental strength from Murray to overcome that disappointment and win the fifth set convincingly. Shame I couldn't see the whole match, sounded like it was a great back and forth encounter.

If Murray can win the final he'll become the first ever player to win the next grand slam straight after his first win.

A lot to ask of him, 5 set match late in the evening and one days rest compared to Djokovic's 2 days rest.

Murray has certainly stepped up to match the other big names in tennis now, he just needs some more slams!

It was an excellent match, that saw me do pretty much nothing at work while it was on!

Think Murray was on top more or less the whole match, once it got to five sets I could only see one winner, Roger looked ready for his cocoa and slippers.
Whilst you can see Roger's grip on being a top four player waning slightly - his best chance this year has to be Wimbledon, Murray is on the ascendancy, think it's between him and Djokovic for top dog now, think Ralph's knee injury will unfortunately be an ongoing problem for him.

Think Djokovic will beat Murray on Sunday, the extra day of rest will be to his advantage.

I have to say i'm surprised at the match so far, Murray looking as if he has a really good chance to take this. Djokovic certainly not looking happy.

                          It's thrilling telly!

The irony is that all this sport has made me a couch potato and I'm watching this whilst still in my jim jams!

I really need to walk the dog but cannot drag myself away from this. Don't want to jinx it but Murray looks incredible.

Man, some of the shots being played here are phenomenal.
