I'd suggest getting it remapped properly rather than getting a generic map.

Not sure how much those bluefins are going to set you back (I'm guessing 400-500?), but a full remap of my car with a laptop on the open road for a couple of hours is 300, so that the map matches the car setup (exhaust size, intake air mass capability, Intercooler efficiency). The mapper gives the choice of how far you want to go with the power and can also tweak for economy too. And the choice of 2 maps if I fancy.

I haven't done this yet because going from 230bhp to 300bhp will mean trashed tyres, insurance hike and screaming children

Well me being me I've ordered one anyway.
It's reversable in about 2 minutes if I'm not happy so I'll see how I go!

Had my Cupra remapped by AMD in Essex & I'd definitely recommend the custom route like them.

Mine went up from 180Bhp to 215Bhp which was plenty for me..it eats tyres now though so be warned.

Definitely stay away from plug ins or the Egay route for anything like this...they can basically screw up the engine.

Mine cost me £500 & included...

        Rolling road after

Can't fault their service either as they really know what they are doing (the owner Shaun races in the BTCC as a privateer)

They are a drive from you but will be worth it.

If not these guys are really well recommended on the Cupra.net site...

I'd consider joining an Audi forum though & hitting them up for some advice & assistance they'll point you in the right direction.

Heh that's exactly why I called it an AE86. Corolla WHAT?

Agreed, you can't go wrong with an old Audi like that!

          I've always liked these too...

And with regard to the 1200bhp monster, that's about 10 times the power of my car which I thought was pretty nippy!

For a second there I thought that was a Jenson Intercepter. You don't really see many of the classic sport cars on the roads in the city but when you get out in the country, oh yes. There are loads of them. I even saw a Delorian once. Yep, a Delorian on the Japanese mountain roads. I never thought I'd see one of them in Japan.

There is one crime against a British classic in Japan and that is the old Jaguar XJ. The lower the thing to the floor, stick stupid bling 19" wheels on it then add a load of plastic **** around the skirt. It looks terrible but for some reason the Japanese Yanki (punk or maybe just tit) seem to think this is cool

Drifting OT for a mo, yesterday was the first day this year I had the air in the hair. That is all.

Eh? Wouldn't is still be bloody cold in the UK? I know it's cold here in Japan and this is a warmer place to be. I'm still using the heaters in the morning and on the way home at night (a bit).

Mine has been custom re-mapped. Like others have said, a custom remap for your car not just any car that's your model, is the best way to go. Then again I guess it can't hurt if you have the funds to try out one of those off the shelf chips. At least it will give you an idea of what you can get from a custom job. Be careful though. As others have said, prolonged use of one of those chips may damage your engine if it's not programmed right.

Those chips also assume bog standard, so if you have modded the airflow at either end, it could cause lean or rich running.

It was showing 6 degrees on the screen in the car. I was a bit of a wuss and kept the windows up though! And I didn't use the heated seats. Or a hat.
Can't beat a crisp bright winter day and some open air motoring. It is always good to hear the flat six behind my head a bit more clearly than with the hood up.

Sounds refreshing but also a bit too chilly for my liking. I'm a total wuss these days. Every morning I start up my engine and turn on the heaters for 15 minutes before I head off to work. Hmm, nothing like stepping in to a nice warm car in the chilly morning.

At current UK petrol prices that would cost you about a fiver!

                            Comment

yeah, so I heard on Top Gear. 5.25 a gallon right? I'm paying 615 yen for 5 liters which is just over 1 UK gallon. That comes to 4 pounds 64 pence, so we're not that far behind. Actually, petrol prices are going up and down every week in this country. Last week it was 127 yen a liter but this week it's 123 yen per liter which seems to be the norm. In November it dropped to 117 yen per liter which was nice.

Depending on where you buy your petrol and what city you buy it in also has a big difference in Japan. For some reason SHELL charge 142 yen per liter while ESSO (Where I go) only charge 123 yen. Why the big change in price I wonder? They're both selling the same grade petrol.

                                Help Needed!

I need to change a bulb on my Impreza's headlights but it's proving to be a right pain in the arse. I don't know what they are called in the UK but over here they're known as Position lights. I'm guessing this is also what they're called in real English. Anyway, it's the small light that comes on just before you hit the main headlights.

The other lights will unscrew and pull out from the back but access to this one is very tight plus it doesn't seem to want to come out. So without ending up breaking something by forcing it out I was wondering what would be the best solution? Would I have to remove the whole head light from the car to replace the bulb? If so then I'd have to do both because I bought some nice LEDs to replace them.
