He then moved in to the middle land and slowed down in front of me. What a wanker! No idea what his game was.
I had the EXACT same thing on the M6 the other night, some tool in a pimped Mini came flying up behind me then started swerving from side to side as if he was behind a pace car in the Grand Prix. I moved over as soon as I finished overtaking the precession of cars and sure enough he scooted past but then he just slowed down and formed a rolling road block with a Ford Galaxy for about ten miles. At which point we both turned off for the M62 and began some pathetic drag race that probably wasn't worth the insta-ban I'd have received had the police seen us

The world is full of wankers for sure. What makes it worse is that these pimped out car owners probably can't even handle a car at high speed. Morons is all they are.

ouch you poor sod! My old Scooby had 2nd gear worn synchros but it wasn't too bad just a tad stiff when cold. And gearbox work costs a damn fortune as you well know!

Anyone had any experience with bulbs? Interested in some as my wifes car does not have xenons. I have looked at hid kits but would prefer to go down the bulb route if any offer enough extra light. The philips x-treme get ok write ups. Anyone?

Does it need extra light? I don't have Xenons on my old Impreza and it's fine. But I can only answer "no, not tried" to your question. I always go standard.

              I always use: http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk

Headlight bulbs are currently the bane of my existence. Both the drivers side main-beam and side-light bulbs have gone on my spare car (52-Plate Laguna Sport Tourer) and they're Xenons which on a Laguna means I can't replace them myself. According to the manual I have to send it to the dealer so they can dismantle the front end. All-in-all it means £120 parts and labour for something I used to be able to do myself (not sure if I can on my new car as it's less than a year old so the bulbs obviously haven't gone yet).

Also the Laguna has a smashed driving light/front fog that I could change myself but have no idea where I could buy the part from so that's another £90...

Really it's all spelling the end for the Laguna which is a shame because it's still handy for trips to Ikea and such. I've had this car years and got the mileage up to 207,000 for which it's been 100% reliable. Infact in four years the only parts/labour it needed outside of servicing and tyres is a suspension coil that snapped and two electronic tyre-pressure sensing valves that bust but I replaced with regular valves for £3 including fitting.

My wife's car uses normal bulbs but I couldn't say which are the best out there. I ended up buying PIAA brand bulbs that give of a Xenon style light but of course not as bright. THey do the job thogh and look cool. I'll take a look tonight when I get home to see what number they are. If you do want to fit Xenons then be very careful. I heard that they can give you a shock as bad as a CRT TV. I've not had to change mine yet but when the time comes to change them I'll probably let Subaru handle it.

Yes would like some more light. It's a Mercedes C-Class estate with just about everything bar Xenons! I know a few people have fitted HID kits to various cars but I am not a big fan of messing about with aftermarket stuff. The philips H7 X-Treme Power bulbs get a good auto express review and for £30 probably give a bit more light. Just be nice to see if someone here had used them and could recommend.

I put some H7 "somethings" on a 1 series before... I can't for the life me recall the name of the brand. They did make a difference though. I would put some on my current car (an Avensis) but changing the bulbs require you to remove the bumper (seriously!) so I doubt I'll be doing that any time soon.

I'd recommend them though in lieu of xenons...

Changing the sidelights on my legacy - the manual says take it to the dealer. In reality, all you have to do is undo one plastic fixing-screw and push the water bottle spout to one side, and then remove the backplate from the main beam (unscrews by hand) to give some room to reach to the sidelight. Or on the other side remove the airbox feed (again, one screw).

Get in there and have a go.

Oh no, this really is a dealer job, the front bumper and grill have to come off apparently. Plus the Xenons have some kind of booster that gives them enough power to ignite and they're over £300 to replace so I don't want to risk damaging that since I literally only use this car to pick things up from Ikea/Habitat.

In retrospect I should have bought a used Range Rover Sport instead of opting for a poxy little S3 (damn you cool-looking LED headlights for swaying my judgement).

They have a high current digital supply which is bad news if it isn't discharged properly since last use and the bulbs themselves are highly pressurises and explode when dropped. Good eh?

That's why you shouldn't mess about with Xenon / discharge bulbs. To change the ones on my car is easy enough but I don't feel like risking it. One slip up and that's that.

All new video up today. Typical Japanese mountain road this time going up and then back down until I get stuck behind some slow bugger. 720 x 400 HD resolution running at approx' 11 minutes.
