I hear (from Canadians from other places) that Toronto is more like American-Canada.
    Never been there myself though.

I won't start on Canadian girls lol............ thats for another thread, but i will say that YES girls there are more ahem willing.......... I have more luck with girls in canada than here in blighty - must be somat in the water........ of course the accent does help.

If i was you id go to Toronto first and make your way to Vancover as the flights to Toronto are some what cheaper than to Vancouver (being further and all). Plus it will give you a chance to check out the the 'big smoke' before going to see your friend

Im thinking of going this summer back to Toronto to see family and make more ahem friends Summers get really hot like the winters get really cold there! Be prepared to pay tax on top of what you buy in ths shops as whats written on teh price tag is not the final figure. Can't tell you how annoying it is when you think you have the right change for something............

You will also find the bug cities like Toronto and Vancouver to be very cosmopolitan and multi cultural. Its a really surreal experience to see everyone from all different backgrounds and religion mixing in together.......... Well for me it was lol, in a good way of course............

The Canadian buck is rather high right now compared to a couple of years back were it was nearly 1 to 2 for your pound. Now its more like 1 - 1.6 still not bacd, but not overly good.........

You have to keep us updated on your whereabouts when you are there dude!

Was there in 2006, great place.

Locals are very friendly, great food (loads of award winning restaurants) and the weather is not too bad either.

I would love to go back, they love the scottish accent and the part about canadian women being interested in by saying hello to them is very true.

        You'll love it.

You can talk about the Canadian girls if you want, its still part of the Canadian experience so by all means go ahead. The tax on top shouldnt be too much of a problem as I got used to it in the states. Whats the nightlife like in Toronto? I lived in Tokyo for 8 months so I am after something like that, always something to do even at 2am in the morning, not like Southampton where almost everything except bars and clubs shut up at 6pm. Im not expecting anything like Tokyo but I hope its more eventful than the UK.

Will keep you guys updated once Im there though, at the moment my application has gone through BUNAC and is being processed now at the Canadian embassy So hopefully I should know if I got it or not within the next 4 weeks, if I do I should be out of here within 2 months

The Nightlife in Toronto is good - can be expensive depending on what you are looking for........ The bar scene is a bit different as there tends to be a door charge in quite a few places and the idea of bar hoping is kinda difficult as bars are quite far from each other. Plus the entrance fee will deter anyone from leaving in a hurry.

I was kinda shocked as there are clubs which cater for not jus musical taste but for ethinicity lol......... i was shocked when i went into an all asian club........ it was again surreal........ You wont find your self short of places to go after hours as there is always 24hr cafes or after hours clubs that go on till 7am or something obscene like that.........

Dude............ GIRLS! Hot damn Canadian girls are great - they are open to experimentation lol......... Something i found interesting was there idea of boyfriend/grilfriends. Over here if you go out with someone a few times, you kind of end up or are perceived as a couple. Over there, and im sure it applies to the US, peeps go out and 'date' loads of peeps at the same time, before they make up their mind about being 'exclusive'. Can be good and bad i guess......... But its not uncommon to find peeps asking other peeps out in all sorts of places and on the regular too. Its a lifestyle i must admit i wasn't used to. Also, you WILL be suprised at how relatively easy it is to get dates over there. Everyone is so open to it. But the best looking girls are the french canadian ones (they got that mixed Euro look to em ) If you can speak French, then it opens a whole new world to you lol..........

Believe me when i say this - Some of my best experiences are due to being in Canada God Bless that beautiful country!

Oh and the standard of living is much better and cleaner there - you know how you see those shows in america with fairly big houses and rooms, well the houses there are HUOWGE (depending on the area of course) and very affordable! For teh price of a terraced house here, you can get a detached one. But then again thats relative to your location. But then everyone drives to go anywhere there............

Have we not got any more Canadian brothers and sister on here who can give a bit more insight?

My mum's side of the family all live in Canada, and she was raised in Guelph, outside of Toronto. I've been over loads of times in my life, and have had free run with my grandad's car and stuff, driven to London, upto Ottawa etc.

I like Canada, has all the good things from America without the Americans. As someone said, they love the English, as there are loads of old ex-pats out there and they like to connect with any Brits.

Be warned, it gets really fsckin' cold in Winter, like nothing you've ever experienced in the UK!

Just a bit of an update, got an email today from BUNAC confirming that my application was successful and my work authorisation is waiting for me, its taken me 6 long months to get this far so its a huge relief for me. All I need to do now is get my flight and insurance sorted out, plus notify the Inland Revenue that im leaving the country (and try to get the 300 quid that I have paid in taxes so far this financial year back) and I will be on my way At the moment Im hoping to be able to leave in 4 weeks time if I can raise enough funds by then. Best bit for me will be being able to tell my boss to go stick his job
