Yeah, that's the other answer. The question wasn't completely specific that it had to be more than one digit

As for the Boxed In question, it's impossible... unless you do the "cheaty"

fold the paper over and draw on the back of it to reach the spot you need to get to

        tactic.

Unless... surely this can't the right answer, but it's the only thing I can possibly come up with in a "cheaty" manner to solve the issue... see attached picture

the cross in the middle is actually a polygon and not just two lines crossing each other

Does require a cheaty answer but that answer involves going back over a line :P

                  This allowed?

You draw another part of the 'x' on the outside, to allow you to get back to the last side.

I'm declaring that puzzle invalid, sorry Malc!

I assume you mean he swapped around the feet and inches in a measurement in both (ie 2' 1" becoming 1' 2") rather than 3' becoming 3" because I'm sure the latter is impossible.

Also, just to check, you do meant 3/10 not 1/3 don't you?

I thought that it means if the guy ordered, for example, a 12 foot rope, then the assistant only gave him 12 inches of rope. Therefore he only got 1 foot of rope, when he wanted 12 foot.
