There seems to be a cure for the yellow tint to the 3G screens. First do a backup (sync to iTunes) and then do a restore which will prompt iTunes to download a slightly newer firmware which calibrates the screen to produce a more natural white balance. Just tried it and it definitely seems more neutral now.

What's the general overall impression of iPhone 3G amongst those on this thread who now have it, then?
Due to the overall distribution fiasco, my 16Gb Black model is still sitting on my desk, unwrapped and unopened in the box. Also, I'm finding myself pondering whether or not I should just take it back to the O2 store I got it from, cancel the new £30 p/m contract that came with it and just wait for it to come out on PAYG.
Reviews that I've read have generally been pretty positive towards iPhone 3G, but does it get a "yay" or a "nay" from people on here?

Personally I couldn't see it on mine (bear in mind that I've never seen an original iPhone in the flesh so had no basis for comparison), but if it's there it's good to know that it's a software issue.

Anybody with a 2.5g iPhone that's upgraded to 2.0 firmware...
Has anybody else noticed reduced performance? Typing for me is now hideously inaccurate whereas before I didn't have a problem with it at all, it keeps having to auto correct everything I type, i'll go to press L and it will come up with H, etc...
Typing also now jutters a lot. When you listen to the clicking when i'm typing it will keep pausing then rapidly trying to catch up or just miss letters.
Scrolling on contacts now is incredibly jerky, and 5 times now i've gone to access my Settings and it's just locked up unless I hold in the home button for 5 - 10 seconds.
Anybody else had these issues?

I don't even have an iPhone and this whole thing has been a disaster for me. I have the Touch and, yes, with that I'm definitely getting reduced performance. But on top of that, I'm having iTunes 7.7 not work on anything anywhere, my Touch refuses to do most of the normal things it is supposed to when synced (if I can get it to sync) and generally there has been a mini apocalypse centred around iTunes and my iPod Touch.

If anyone is getting crashing problem or slowdown and the like, have you tried to do a soft reset? Hold down the Home button and power button for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears. Used to work for me on the old iPhone when Safari constantly crashed.
In other news, using an iTrip in the car with the new iPhone is so much better than the last one! I can now use the GPS tracking, surf the net and check email while listening to music and get no interference over the radio. With the old one I had to go into airplane mode just to use the iTrip as the interference was horrendous.
And the GPS is so cool. Im getting cheap thrills everytime I see the flashing blue dot telling me where I am.

Nipped into my local O2 store today on the way home from work and they had some demo units out for people to play on and...well...they've put me off getting an iPhone 3G.
The back looks really cheap (totally greased up and covered in finger-prints) and the software seemed to be really slow and kept freezing for split seconds whenever you pushed a button on the screen.
Also, when you did press an icon on the screen it seemed to depress a bit unlike my Touch which feels much more solid.
Sorry Apple.

There's a new 'push data' option on the Touch that is apparently affecting battery life dramatically and may also affect performance. As the two are tied in, I expect it's on the iPhones with the new update too. I have no idea at all what it does but it could be worth switching it off to see if you get an improvement.
Did you hear the yellow colouring was by design? Apparently it changes with firmware.

I've had it with firmware 2.0 on my original iphone, the apps from the store constantly do not work and the overall reduced performance has made all thoughts of upgrading to a 3g iphone disappear completely.
HaHaUK I have tried the soft reset as well as turning the phone on and off but it still does nothing.
How can the same app work fine one minute then with the phone still turned on but on auto-lock not work four hours later?
That particular app was apple's own remote software for itunes, all the other apps go to the splash screen and then return to the dash.
The only way to get them to work again is to remove them and re-install.
