Wish I could recommend my app but I'm still waiting on Apple to process my application

    Comment

I got my hands on an iphone this week.

      My impressions after a week:

As a phone it really sucks balls. You really can tell they just tacked the phone features on. The call quality is rubbish, the speaker is rubbish and not loud enough, the battery life is terrible, the phone crashed! and took a good 2 mins to reboot, you have to use itunes, you can't copy photos ON to the the device via windows, the keyboard will randomly slow down so its 4-6 characters behind.

I would never ever recommend this as a phone, its terrible. As a media player its ok though.

It baffles me why Apple see the need to lock features out. I hate that. I've only got it because the samsung phone i had was crap, but at least i could copy files to and from it!.

Im just waiting for the N96 to be released on O2 so i can upgrade to that. I'll just keep the Iphone as an Itouch afterwards. I haven't taken out an Iphone tariff as i got the phone through someone who had upgraded to the 3g one.

There's an app on the app store that lets you copy files to/from it. It's name escapes me at the moment though. You can obviously copy them off quite easily via Windows Explorer though, but yeah, you have to sync them via iTunes to get them on. No real hardship though, surely? I find the whole process really rather painful.

I've only ever had the 3G one so can't really comment on the first gen iPhone but the call quality is spot on. Easily as good as, if not better, than my K800 I had previously.

Re the speaker. They changed improved that in the 3G model.

I think it's called File Magnet but could be mistaken.

Apple released version 2.0.1 of the software last night which is a "bug fix" release. It does make the OS more stable and most things feel snappier. The god awful Contacts app is still painfully slow on bootup though but it's a step in the right direction. Will obviously knock out jailbroken and unlocked phones so wait until a new method has been sorted.

My boss just installed 2.01... Well, he tried to.. It's now restoring his iPhone to 2.0

I had no problems installing 2.0.1. The only thing I've checked is the contacts application, which isn't sluggish and laggy like it used to be. That was the only persistent problem that I had with the iPhone.

It's pretty clear that 2.0 was rushed to meet the 3G launch, and so hopefully 2.0.1 will be the version that should have been released, with all the kinks ironed out, before we start getting proper new features and a version that can be released when it's finished in 2.1.

Let me guess, the app costs money? I didn't want to copy off, i know i can do that, i wanted to copy some photos from my laptop to my phone. I had tried initally with bluetooh. I found out that was impossible after 30 mins trying and an internet search.

Not being a hardship would be allowing me to actually use the storage without having to deal with itunes. Its something they have purposely disabled, a bit like the bluetooth stack.

It seems like a shareware version of a proper phone. You get some functionality but end up having to pay more to unlock useful features.

I like the conversation style SMS and the applications. But it shouldn't have been used to patch in features that other phones take for granted.

Go into iTunes, select your iPhone, go to 'pictures' & select the album you want to show up on your iPhone. Presto!

Steve Jobs reckons $100 million has been spent on iPhone/Touch Apps in the first month, serious money.

I finally got one of these bad boys lunchtime. Its now charging (although it did already seem to have some charge in it) and I'm updating iTunes but I can't wait to start playing with it.

All I need now is some sort of protective screen for it - can somebody recommend a decent one, preferably one which protects the back as well? There was one mentioned earlier in the thread but I'm too lazy to find it.

                        Cheers!

Man I think my most used "app" (well its not really an app) is the ineogaf reader
Just add this link, http://www.secondapps.com/neogaf/ , to your safari browser.

Upgraded to the 3G the other day. What can you say really... same phone faster connection

GPS is nice to have too.

Annoyingly my office has piss poor 3G reception whereas my home, where I have wireless and so don't need it, has an amazing signal. Typical!
