Apparently 2.1 massively improves app installation times. I saw someone compare it to installing apps in the advert.

It also maintains the app's position on the home screen when you update it, which fixes what has been a massive pain in the arse when updating more than a couple of them at once.

Hoping someone can help me here, i'm trying to transfer some stuff over from my old phone (w950i) onto the iphone (via bluetooth) but it wont let me do it. I keep getting an error when it tries to transfer the file. I've been able to pair the two phones together and that works so not sure why it won't transfer files.

      Any help guys?

what!?! I'd have thought that would've been a standard feature in phones now! I've been doing for the last 5yrs or so

So i'm guessing the bluetooth is only for headsets and the like?

Think so, oh and the Nike shoe thingy (as been discovered today, the new Touch has a built-in Bluetooth device)

Actually, looks like it doesn't work with the iPhone. I'll get me coat.

There's talk that it'll be coming, either in a firmware update or as a standalone app. Nike+ apparently only uses a modified Bluetooth signal, so in theory the iPhone could do it over its Bluetooth connection. We'll see, though.

Is the 2.1 firmware available now?

Also, I'm still using 2.0.1 on my iPhone 3G. Will I have to upgrade to 2.0.2 before I can get 2.1?

Don't know how true it is but somebody told me that this new update might improve reception. God, I hope that's true.

I'd love to see in a future update, the ability to foward text messages. It's a feature I really miss. So crap when someone texts you a good joke and you can't pass it on.

I do love my iPhone, despite my whining, but as a phone it really is a bit meh, innit. It's almost like the phone bit has been added on as an afterthought.

2.1's out now. I got prompted to download it when I synced my phone. 237.8MB for the iPhone 3G version.

I'm still downloading, but people on the MacRumors forums are saying that they've gone from 1-2 bars on 3G to a solid five. That'll be fantastic if it's dramatically improved the reception

and Apple hasn't just set it to show full all the time

Apparently it now allows you to use the 12-hour clock with your country set to UK - FINALLY! I have no idea whose idea that was...

Apple are of course an American company, and everybody in the US tells the time and date
by way of the 24-hour clock and MM/DD/YY as opposed to 12-hour and DD/MM/YY like we do in Europe. This featured has now been fixed for 2.1 - feels so good to have a 12-hour clock back!

I've just downloaded it onto my iPhone. Seems a lot more stable overall. No keyboard lag to speak of as yet and apps like Contacts and Camera definitely load significantly faster. That said, the proof will be in the pudding when I try out a bit of Safari-surfing and iPod action - hopefully the annoying glitches that made Safari and Cover Flow quit for no reason have been eradicated once and for all.

It had an option to switch between 12-hour and 24-hour in the US and indeed everywhere in older firmware versions. It just mysteriously disappeared for the UK (not sure about other non-American countries) in 2.0 and has only now reappeared.

2.1 seems like an overall improvement. Stuff that had been a bit sluggish throughout the 2.0.x versions like installing apps - which do now remember their position when updating - and the contacts application are dramatically improved.

I'm definitely getting a better 3G signal as well. At home, which is right on the edge of O2's coverage map, I was getting one bar on 2.0, but on 2.1 it's more like 3-4, with a few spots with a full signal. I'll leave 3G on over the weekend and see how I go.
