The intelligence suddenly changed when Saddam became a "bad guy" after being the "good guy" for a while and then Libya was said to be involved.
The man released was convicted on the basis of clothing bought in Malta.
The man who provided the evidence of buying clothes in Malta was apparently paid US$2m by US authorities upon providing the evidence and moved to Australia.

It is a pretty interesting story actually.
      Yes and....

Good read, they believe over 140 people survived the bomb and the aircraft falling to the ground, due to the injuries sustained

and there was one survivor who died just before the emergency services turned
      Yes.

There's a whole separate discussion we could have about 103.

Dr Swire has protested for a long time that Megrahi was innocent, that's why I'm at a bit of a loss for whether I think it's a good thing ot not he's free.
One side of me says that if he was guilty then he should still be in prison but should he even be in prison in the first instance, I suppose we will never know.

The website of Dr Jim Swire and Lockerbie researcher Peter Biddulph, in the case of Abdel Baset Al-Megrahi, convicted in 2000 for the Lockerbie bombing

Yeah Gadaffi was there to welcome him back too. It made me sick tbh.

Terrorist countries are looking at the UK & see us as a joke. We look pathetic to the rest of the world, & our justice/legal system has been f*cked in the ass for far too long.

the worst thing for me was the amount of Saltire's (St Andrews Cross) being waved around in the crowd

Agree, whatever he did or didn't do, the hero's welcome was bang out of order.

            Whoever arranged the airstairs at Glasgow should get a talking to too;

Lybia are sat on one of the biggest uptapped oil supplies in Africa. We have been fondling around under the table with them for a long time.

This is a human being we're talking about, whether he was guilty or not. Providing he's not in a position to do any more harm with his release, and he clearly isn't, than punishing him for the sake of it is worthless. It's a bit rich for 'misterbubbles' to charge him with a lack of human compassion, while calling for his blood, and showing absolutely no empathy whatsoever.

I almost threw up at this. This thread is embarassing.

i aint baying for his blood, i dont want him killed or even to die a nasty death from cancer, i'd just like him to serve his time like anybody else, he got 27 yrs he should serve them , ill or not .... i could prove the point by saying if i killed somebody but i had cancer should it excuse me or i wouldn't go to jail , and tommy is allowed his opinion that's democracy for you.
p.s a human being who MURDERED 270 people in cold blood , how human is that?

There is some dispute as to whether he actually played a role in it at all, isn't there? Something to do with him being convicted on the loosest of evidence (a single piece of cloth I think the BBC said...). Even some of the victims' families dispute that he is actually guilty of anything.

Having said that, I feel that the biggest travesty is that the appeal never went ahead, and as such the full story will never come out. Stinks of convenient cover up to me, but that's just my opinion.

I think its a bit rich for the US to say where is the justice, when pretty much they did pretty much the same thing (look up Iran Air Flight 655, that what saif mentioned in an earlier post) and the crew was rewarded for it!
To be honest it wouldn't surprise me if Iran was some how lined to Lockerbie as a revenge attack.

Whether he should be released or not, I think only the victims of his crime (if we ignore the conspiracy) can only really decide as he is not threat to public safety from what i can see.

I am not ignorant nor stupid, but I think you've already made your mind up anyway.

What I meant to write as I quickly scrawled that post was "terrorist groups within countries"

one thing alot of people are forgetting is the political aspect here.

The snp had their day, spat the dummy out and made a decision to put Scotland on the world stage.

i think its a very brave decision

Kenny came out with a few funnies, the Labour MSP is going about the place telling people he wouldn't have done it if he was the first minister, but apparently he was asked what he would do prior to the release and he wouldn't say anything

now there is a little political gain to be had and he is telling everybody that he would still be in jail - what an Arse

I liked David cameron until this, its just funny watching them trying to get every bite they can to get one up on each other

                                Politicians - what a joke!
