I tried to purchase Left4Dead 2 on the Steam midweek deal for a lovely ~4 quid, only to be faced with an error message. I eventually realised that it was because I've recently moved to Japan and haven't bought any games since I was in the UK, so the account was flagged for being accessed from another country. So I fired off an email to Valve, it took them 2 days to reply and eventually getting my account unlocked... and now the Left4Dead 2 deal is over.

Obviously I don't blame Valve, it's a sensible security measure, but it has left me Left4Dead 2-less.

To be fair though, it is about bloody time. 360 gamers have received earlier/better/extra stuff over PS3 gamers for years.

We all love a bargain, but L4D2 is worth it at full price!

The whole personalised gift cards industry. Gift cards of any description are ****e. I put any that I receive up for a maximum of 5 days, out of obligation, and then bin the bastards.

            Amazon.

Early last month I read that a book I've been keeping tabs on for ages was coming up for pre-order at Amazon, so I did just that. The publication date was down for December.

Last weekend someone posted on a forum that they'd had an email from Amazon informing them that the publication date had been brought forward, and that they were ready to ship. Since then, he and a hatful of people on that forum have posted that they have either received the book, or at the very least been sent a despatch email. One bloke even posted photos of his copy, looking all new and enticing.

I've had precisely piss-all from them since my original order. No change of date email, no despatch; just silence. So while others are enjoying their new tome, I'm sat here fretting that I may never get one. I'm afraid that the book may have a limited print run (as it's very niche) and while I'm waiting for something to happen, they're going to get snapped up. There's quite a few people already posted that they've put in orders since that guy put the photos up.

What absolutely ****e service from amazon, they've been totally incompetent in the matter. If I miss out on this I'll never buy anything from them again. WTF was the point in pre-ordering when Jimmy Scratbag can order a copy off the cuff and probably finish it before amazon bother to check their records properly? Pre-order - what a swizz. Arseholes.

            Edit: emailed the bastards.

Amazon are ****. I've recieved stuff from them before even getting a dispatch notification email.

I've never had any problems with Amazon. I've been using them for about 5 years now and they've always been very prompt.

Paid for the Prime service, and to be honest it's been second to none in terms of speed and customer support, worth it if you use them a lot especially with Christmas coming up.

That's just how fast they are. If a company can work the postal system so well that they can get me stuff before they've even sent it, that's a company that earns my business.

Amazon - I didn't realise you had to manually cancel Amazon prime else it was going to charge us £50 each in about a week - lucky I checked, jeez.

Just got an email back from some tosser who should really work in the 'plausible deniability' department of the government.

He said that there'd been a misunderstanding about pre-orders. Apparentlly this pre-order doesn't features 'release day delivery'. Well, duh. Whatever - I expect it to be delivered asap.

He then gave me a load of patronising twaddle about what a pre-order was, and publishers not letting Amazon release a product until the designated street date. Apparently he's checked the release date of this book, and it's sometime in November. I can't have the book beforehand because it's not released until then.

                        What a load of ****.

What the hell is the point of a pre-order, if they don't release an item when the publisher makes it available, and allows its release? That is what has happened. The moron completely ignored the fact that many people have received their copies. No, no, this is impossible, because it doesn't get released for another month.

A typically generic message from a too-big-for-its-boots company, and a man who has refused to absorb the actual information I've provided, because it doesn't fit with what his screen has told him.

So, I've gone to the product page and Lo!! I can order a copy of the book. There's no pre-order option, because as far as the page is concerned, it's been released and been made available. I've now placed an order for it, with a maximum delivery date expected in late October (steady now ... it's not released til mid November, remember...).

When I recieve the copy I'm going to photobucket the cover, and send them a question with the link - why have you delivered me a copy of this when your own sales monkey said it was impossible because it's not been released?

I mean I order something opn a friday, it arrives tuesday and I get a message that it has been sent on the wednesday or thursday.

Also, people who send games with cardboard boxes in a jiffy bag. Excuse me? I bought it in mint condition, I don't want it to arrive looking like a stampede of elephants has gleefully run over it.

                              A bit of a result:

First of all, please allow me to apologise for the inconvenience caused by this issue.

I do agree with you that there is contradictory information being proved. The product page on the website says the book usually dispatched within 1 to 3 weeks but we have given you a dispatch date is December.

I will investigate this contradiction and will contact you when I have more accurate information to provide.

I just want the damn book, though! I should have already got it.

Just seen this DVD listing on eBay!!

They've somehow managed to sell 7 bloody copies of that film and not one of the idiots who bought it has left bad feedback.

I'm not sure whether I'm more annoyed at them for selling a film that doesn't exist or at the people who've bought it for being so stupid that they ordered it in the first place and then neglected to mention that there was a problem in the feedback.
