I'll never deny that it wasn't incredibly tough for them but I will say that their actions shouldn't really be elevated to be greater than they were.

Rationing food and digging for water were sensible but hardly tough or creative decisions (especially considering at least some of them would've had training about what to do in a cave in situation) and when there are 33 of you, it's easier to be kept sane. If you get hysterical, you've 32 people queueing up to slap you.

I don't know. I would have thought the more people, the harder it would have been. That's a lot of people with a lot of urges to control when it comes to rationing.

They only had food for three days and agreed to limit food consumption to a few spoonfuls a day, on the guess that it would take weeks for them to be discovered. They dug for trapped water in the rock, despite the fact that parts of the mine were unstable. One of them became the groups 'spiritualist' and kept the group together. It's pretty amazing that none of them went stir crazy in those first 17 days, in the heat with lack of food and oxygen and no idea whether they would be discovered.

Personally, I think it's a pretty amazing story and would make a great film.
For once I agree, and let's have some respect too. Lots of my family and ancestors worked down the mines in the past. My mam found out when she did the family tree that we have had ancestors killed in mining accidents not to mention the fact that some of them worked in pits as children.

The sight of the capsule arriving underground was pure Thunderbirds and the whole rescue has been amazing. The fact they got a drill down to send supplies and then a big enough hole through solid rock to send this bizarre looking thing down it with the interior width of the average tv set. Not to mention finding them in the first place.

I work with ex miners and even they said it would be pretty scary coming back up in that capsule whizzing past solid rock.

We probably blow more on video games a month then they get risking their lives doing a tough and dangerous job.

It reminded me of an old British black and white film, where some miners get stuck after a cave in and everyone struggles to reach them in time.

And extended sequences consisting of nothing but a black screen with a soundtrack of people clattering about and smacking their shins.

To celebrate this momentous occasion I'm going to cook some Chilli to eat tonight. And then sit there and eat it with the lights off.

Yeah I've got total respect for those miners. And I agree that more ppl means more chances of conflict. As soon as 1 kicks off it can set a nasty trail of ppl getting irritable & angry. Plus the food/water situation at the beginning mixed with the heat would have made it difficult. I;m not saying they were heroes but they did an immense job of keep their heads, which I also think is down to how well they obviously got on as ppl & not just workers.

I agree that the government probably didnt give a toss about their wellbeing b4 the accident, but then which government does? Its only until after events like this that governments (hopefully) learn their lesson.

Do I think a film should be made of it? Yes I do actually. I think that considering films have been made of other dramatic events then this is a pretty amazing story to be told from both the miners & the rescuers point of view.

Yet again another news topic that everyone in the UK is apparently sick of and yet that I haven't heard a single thing about. Honestly, this place is like it's on a different planet sometimes.

If it doesn't pose a potential threat to Japan then it's seemingly not newsworthy. You can call that another irk a guess.

Unless there were actually 34 at first and they ate one, then my money's on bumming.

That it was taking Dell 3 weeks to make my laptop, now I've checked back and it's taking 6!

Dark stuff in the mine? As in the torches ran out of batteries?

I suppose there is a slight chance it involved red light sabres.

Maybe they've found out the it's the new recruitment drive for big brother since the viewing figures dropped and they're only going to release one each week?

I'm a little disappointed that the people on the surface didn't take this opportunity to all dress up as zombies just to see the miner's reactions. They'll probably never have an opportunity for a joke like that again!

Darwock, I am the first to criticize Japanese for that, but it has had loads of coverage. I watched the rescue live on TV.
