I thought you put the comma because we usually put a comma before some speech, like:
She turned to me and said, "yo' grammar is awesome, yo"

Oh! We're actually treading close to a HUGE irk of mine that re-surfaced after watching some LoL commentaries over lunch.
American kids who can't pronounce English names or words properly. Some champions in LoL seem to have verbally challenging names:
Warwick - They like to pronounce it "War Wick". Like the ****ing wick of a candle that's only to be burnt during wartime. Even worse is that the shorthand form of referring to this champion in-game is abbreviated to "WW".
Elise - "Ellis"
Yorick - "Jorrick"
I always try to correct these idiots in the comments but I get shot down.

Semicolons can be tricky to use correctly and they're often not necessary anyway, particularly on forums and the like.
Alex, I wasn't having a pop at you. I was simply pointing out the immutable rule of the internet that anyone pointing out a grammar mistake online is doomed to include one in their response.
I speak several languages but would I go on the French or Italian, say, equivalent of Bordersdown and try to debate the finer points of punctuation with the natives? Would I buggery.
Besides, your English is considerably better than a fair portion of the native speakers on here (cf. the 'brought' vs 'bought' thing, and particularly 'have' vs 'of' as an auxiliary verb) so I take my hat off to you
