But allow Flash on the iPad/iPhone and the Appstore won't be as profitable as it is now.
What I truly can't uderstand is why Apple didn't gave the iPad a proper OS and not the same operating system as the iPhone. The lack of at least two USB ports is also puzzling...I know that companies like to milk users for each and every accessory, but an adapter for a single USB port? Really?

Apple should launch an anti-iPad for techie types called the iJustDon'tGetIt. It'll be even bigger than the JooJoo, weigh loads, have a cack battery life, loads of ports (that will go largely unused), a removable battery, an inappropriate aspect ratio and expose the file system with it's ill suited desktop UI.

I wasn't really interested at first, but once I had seen the videos on the Apple site, I felt I needed one.

The main reason would be the nice big screen and optimized browser. On the couch web browsing without having a laptop getting how on my lap (or crotch!).

        Secondly, music making apps

My mind is telling me to wait until the next generation of iPad arrive, but my inner child just doesnt give a sh*t!

Anyone have an idea how much the entry 16gb ipad will be here in thy UK? About £399?

Not quite sure how a device utterly incapable of being used with MIDI instruments and with no decent audio in could be used professionally by musicians. Not to mention the need for multitasking for any media professional.

Plus grooveboxes like the Electribe series benefit from having performance-oriented controls, which would be very fiddly without a tactile interface.

I use my Ipod Touch to send MIDI messages to my PC via WiFi, so it's very possible. Just need apps to include such a function.

I think for many computer musicians, the Ipad will work well as a scratch pad. It'll be a nice change having a break from the desktop or laptop.

The Ipad's screen surface is big enough now to work pretty well as a controller for other MIDI instruments i.e. Hardware and software.

I'm sure developers such as Hexler.net will be upgrading their TouchOSC app for Ipad at some point.

A preview of Comics by comiXology for the iPad. Comics 1.5 is available for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch.

Very slick, Comixology app for the iPad.

You can rotate it though, so you can have it on any side you like.

If it's like most apps for iPhone though you can't hold it upside down and have the apps turn the right way. If apples OS only works 1 way up

If the simulator's anything to go by then it doesn't matter if the app supports it or not.

iPad... although from what my mate tells me that real thing seems to work differently to the simulator, so I think you're right.

Sorry, couldn't remember who said it. The iDevices will never have Flash support, unless there is a significant conciliation between Adobe and Apple. Steve Jobs hates Flash, says it's a resource hog and isn't needed, and will be totally superseded by HTML5. He's probably right about the last part, although yes it is very inconvenient for the time being that it's not supported.

Despite their superficial similarities they're really for very different things. Do you want a smartphone that you can carry everywhere you go, but that will be limited for tasks requiring a larger screen? Or do you want a netbook/smartphone crossover designed for web browsing, book reading and light productivity tasks?

I find it amusing that jobs insists HTML5 won't be a resource hog. Javascript is slow as sin, combine that with vector graphics and it'll use huge amounts of CPU.

I would find it infinately amusing if after all this crap Apple are giving Adobe, Adobe turn around and say they won't be releasing any more editions of Photoshop for OSX

That would hurt Adobe way more than it would hurt Apple, I think. I don't know enough about it to know whether there is anyone waiting to step into the breech if this did happen, but when Quark tried it a few years ago it didn't work.

They didn't make a Universal version of their software with any kind of speed (CEO said 'just use Windows') and everyone just switched to InDesign pretty much.
