I sold my iMac about a year ago as I thought it was silly having two computers in the house. But I'm not all that keen on using my other half's MacBook. I've never been too keen on laptops ergonomically and I am considering a iPad for daily use knowing if I have any kind of "heavy lifting" to do I can fall back on the MacBook.

My concern about the iPad is that it ends up I don't like the ergonomics of it either. How do you find it in that regard?

Has anyone got an ipad and using it to read comcis? Thats the main reason I want an ipad so it would be portable but large enough to appreciate the art and text. I use the comic reader mobi on my iphone and its good but not as good as when I had a HTC HD2 which had a larger screen but also a much higher resolution.

Unfortunately this app has been banned from the App Store for 1 yeah

Still, I'd like to use it for the Marvel and IDW apps, so anyone using it for comics?
I read on my laptop but its a 16.4" Vaio and not really portable

I had a go with the Marvel reader on an iPad and it was a rather good experience. I only had chance for 10 minutes or so, I can't speak to how it'd be over a few hours (for example).

I'm such a fickle person at the best of times. Having just ordered a HTC Desire, I found out I can get £183 (at least) for my iPhone, so I've just ordered an iPad so I can keep my apps. Delivery in the UK (if you order now) is 7th June... Guess the first batch sold out!

No doubt that the ergonomics of a tablet are very different to a laptop. The Apple case which you can elevate for typing helps, whether at the desk, on the sofa or in bed. I have a stand for it on my desk and can pair it to a keyboard if I have a lot of typing to do as my iMac is away for repair just now so it's been a god-send.

Comic apps are very nice, as are the e-reader ones from Apple and Amazon. I've done a fair bit of reading on the device, the form factor is spot on for that and has also changed my mind about considering digital editions of magazines/newspapers. Even reading current articles on news websites is very different thanks to the way you can zoom in, hold the device like a book etc. Very hard to explain and the demos certainly don't capture just how nice the device is to use.

Downsides? No flash I guess although I don't seem to visit many flash-based sites regularly. It's a finger print magnet, but the screen is so bright that you don't notice them in use, just when you switch it off. The pages and numbers apps are a bit quirky, but they've clearly been designed from the ground up for the platform, so it's more of a fresh learning curve.

I think it's a great device for those who just use a laptop for web, email, social networking and watching vids. Perfect travel companion as well, will definitely cut down on what you need to carry by bing able to have books, music, films all on the one device.

Battery life is as good as they claimed, better depending on what you do with it.

Any specific questions, feel free to ask.

Probably a whack question, excuse me if i'm mental, but is their a messenger program that can log into the MSN network? I'm assuming not or it might be a pain as no multi-tasking?

Yes, there's a few apps that support MSN, but I've not tried them. Multi-tasking will be here soon enough with version 4.0 of thos OS.

I have Beejive IM, that basically sends you a push notification if you are logged in and you aren't running the app.

I had a dabble with one. Beautiful hardware but I did not mess with any apps that made me think I needed one just yet. Outside of reading, there was nothing that I could do on it that I felt really justified the device. It has a lot of promise, just needs that killer app to make it click.

I'd love a ipad to take to work, take to Uni etc.... one thing id love is to take it on my surfing trips and play runescape just for kicks on the lonely cold nights.

Though.. it can't do java, flash and I don't think it would even handle runescapes 1980s graphics...

Shame, wouil;d be awesome if ipad could play some web browser games... Quake live! haha

Prices at the airports are not 'duty free' DSG are maxing their profits (understandably). The 64GB Wi Fi only is £588 versus £599 inhte high street.

I was tempted this morning, but a 16gb is good enough for my needs (£418) so will get one may be this week when I travel to China from Heathrow T4 (I fly somewhere every week so I stand a chance of getting one)

One thing did suprise me, the weight of the Ipad, it is heavier than I thought it would be.

If you are broke, you can always buy an aPad! see here: http://chinagrabber.com/buy-m70003-m...ad-m70003.aspx

I have a query about the iPad.

If you are at home and on wireless, what happens if someone sends you a Ping! or a Words with Friends move? Does it appear on both iPhone and iPad? Same with emails and everything else that uses internet connectivity?

Further to that...if it does come through on both, what happens to the device that you don't use to reply on? Does it "break" the other one? IE if playing Words with Friends does it destroy the game on the other system, or does it update both?

                            Comment

Updates on both Once you open the app it'll update to however it was last played, the game is played on their server and not the device. Infact, when I bought Words With Friends HD I was able to continue my iPhone game seamlessly

I really wanted you to say the opposite, so I could say "HA!! A perfect reason to not buy the device!".

God damn, I've lasted well...but I don't know how long I can last.

                                I WANTS!!!!!
