I've stumbled into a new hobby by way of my existing hobby - I started making replica decals to put on the models I collect so I could preserve the originals. Only requirements were Corel Draw and an Alps printer. I have recently noticed that I enjoy making the decals almost as much as building the kits. There's a market for them too, so I get to enjoy myself AND sell the finished product! When I'm done with replicas I think I might start taking requests and doing my own designs.

I know you say you're not in it for the money but is there anything you could do that takes it beyond a hobby and might actually lead to a change of career or advancement in the career you're in? That may sound boring and exactly the opposite of what you want to achieve but is there anything you've wanted to do and your life just hasn't gone that way? If you could start a hobby that becomes a career or lifestyle, well, as far as I could see you'd be on to a winner.

I work in the high voltage electrical industry, not really something you can expand on in a personal way! I make a very good living from it which will see me retire pretty young, so i'll be sticking with it.
It's definitely not about making money off a hobby, but I don't want to just throw money away. I'm going to look in to these RC 'choppers I think, sounds interesting.

I recently took my kids to a local GS open day and it was pretty scary stuff. Books and books on the back story of all the races etc. and these guys seriously seemed to believe that what they were talking about was real....Trekkies look pretty tame by comparison
I then made the mistake of asking about a starter set and 3 hours later (they even argued whether one race had blue or grey skin) we finally managed to get out of there!!
RC Copters looks like a safe bet

I can only sggest building your own handwired Marshall Plexi clone - you know there will be some sweet Pagey tones in there.
If you are able to follow instructions and handy with a soldering iron it may be great, I have considered it a few times but never able to justifty the time.
Here is a link to one well respected manufacturer with some tone samples on it.
