Line them all up and put a bullet in their heads, or drown them - im not hussy.
Just give them a rake and sent them of to do some mine clearing work, or to afghanistan to clear some roadside bombs.

Such strong, violent statements. And understandable. But, like with the thugs smashing windows and stealing from shop owners, I personally feel it's a shame such energy and power only comes out now, directed where it seems to serve little positive purpose long-term. Certainly, I look here in Ireland (and while the UK isn't quite as shafted, there are similar things happening) and I see a country that has already been looted many times over. More damage, both socially and economically, has been done by errant banks and seemingly sociopathic institutions. Slower rot and not quite as emotive as a burning car I guess but damage that will take far longer to recover from and, with increasing austerity measures, damage that is still being inflicted. Like, if one were to see the change in the streets here in Dublin over the last few years but sped up to happen in three days, if you painted the odd fire in, the result wouldn't look all that different in terms of the damage to businesses and the amount of closures.

Few protests. At least few that anyone paid attention to (often underreported - maybe they should have smashed **** up?). But now we have chavs and scumbags wasting their energies destroying communities, trying to get free stuff and generally looking to stir up ****. Deplorable and wasteful. And the decent people understandably getting angry and getting together to condemn and, in many cases, act against the thugs. Great in one way I guess but I just wish I could have seen that same energy, that same power, focused in places it will really matter.

Off topic I suppose but the whole riot thing has kind of depressed me. Because, to me, it feels like just a little nutty bit in a far larger turd. Yeah, that's pretty poetic.

I agree with the sentiment of the last post.

Also, what irks me is that the politicians and other people of authority never really gave a crap until this ****storm erupted. There's been visible gang behaviour all over the major cities for years if not decades now, rampant drug dealing (crack, heroin), extreme anti-social behaviour (which ASBOs didn't ever solve), and much worse but it was ignored because it didn't affect the rich.

Only now are the politicians trying to say something because they're forced to. I know of many incidents involving people I know getting totally f'd over and they had no help from the authorities or the perpetrators of the crimes against them were let off with a slap on the wrist, or worse, nothing was done.

I don't want death penalties for minor crimes, but more serious punishment for violence, intimidation, harassment and generally making innocent peoples' lives hell, just because they can't afford to move into the leafy suburbs of their towns/ cities.

Also, if you create an underclass of people excluded from normal society, you are then creating huge amounts of individuals who just don't give a sh1t about others or even themselves. That leads to chaos.

It's not about the rich, it's about who can vote. Kids can't vote, so the government doesn't see any reason why they should try to improve their lives. What's the point? It's wasted money when you could spend it increasing bin collections in Surrey and suddenly the whole region's turned Blue.

            Good one.

They should give their homes to the people they made homeless, too.

            It's only fair.

I know what you're trying to say, but the areas those kids destroy have plenty of older people, a lot more of whom vote than is typically assumed, although what happens is their local politicians come along promising to change everything every few years but once they're voted in they soon forget all those promises.

Also, it's not just the kids, I've seen plenty of 40 year old fake gangsters who aren't worth jack.

Superb idea, chain em to tanks and they can walk up front to snuff out IEDs

The solution to the problem of rioters is simple. If you were caught looting or spelling things like "with" as "wiv" then you should be sent to a deserted island with all the other rioters. The only things you'll be allowed to take with you are a blueprint with instructions on how to build your own JD Sports store, and one pair of trainers.

Soon, more and more stores will get built and the looters have to loot other stores to fill their own with trainers, leaving their own store defenceless as they go. Trainers will become currency, as people trade two pairs of Reeboks for a pair of Nike Air until eventually one rioter will reign supreme, having all the pairs of trainers on the island. He will be revered as a god.

Then they'll all starve to death.

Can't we just put them on The Running Man?

Failing that, we could just put them underground with the other Morlocks...

                              Yeah, I Agree with this.

Also - it's funny watching how right-wing people can become during situations like this. That's more scary in my opinion, and I'm generally extreme right-winged. I'd say I'm so far right I actually break the border and come back around into a previously unknown form of left.

I hate using the terms left wing/right wing... I'd prefer the ponce/nutter labels.

We live in a broken society. I suspect that man perhaps came from a broken home, is perhaps unemployed, was never taught right and wrong and probably used to tape programs onto video off the telly back in the VHS days.
