Just come back from the Post Office in Guildford - higher than average police presence. Couple of Police just standing around in the middle of the High Street, a few vans here and there and a few Police cars circling with 4 officers in each. Post Office staff were saying its been rumoured somethings going to kick off here tonight, although I guess they serve a fair few people each day and it's quite likely at least a few customers would be the type that like scaremongering/starting rumours...

Personally I think it will keep happening until police take control of it. Until they do people will keep trying to loot.

There was plenty happening this time yesterday, but it seems relatively quiet so far, police cars on fire in West Brom but that's pretty much it. I imagine there'll be something, though, there's no reason why they'd stop unless they've run out of stuff to burn, until they see a reaction from police.

koopa, I think there are rumours for literally every single place in the country at this point, most probably best taken with a pinch of salt but it's unpredictable.

me too...I am going to Day 2...Edgbaston is out of the way and the police presence is never that high though so I reckon it will be ok.
football season starting on saturday is more of a "worry" for me.

Birmingham was pretty much closed about 2pm, anyone I know who works in the centre has been sent home. I went out to stock up on tea and biscuits just incase I cant leave the house again tomorrow.

WH Smiths are boarding up their shops apparently - photo here of the one in Brighton.

Article on Yahoo seems to suggest a curfew will be put in place. Same article also says their method of "armoured police vans being driven into crowds of perpetrators" was "an apparently successful approach" . I can't understand why they haven't used tear gas?

Not sure about that. If playing games has taught me anything, it's that wood can be torn up with a crowbar but metal shutters are impervious to even a rocket launcher.

Also, we could stop all these protesters by erecting knee-high walls, even hedges. Just be sure to clear the place of barrels - they explode too easily.
