They bring the value of your property down. That's often a primary reason why people want them moved on.

People in need of accommodation breaking into abandoned or uninhabited houses and premises is not a crime in my eyes. Yes, it's against the law, but so was helping Jews in Germany during WWII. Laws need to be examined to see if they serve society - not blindly followed. As the great Bertrand Russell once said "Any fool can make a rule, and any fool will mind it". Some do steal, sure, some people from all walks of life steal, but not every traveller is a thief. Innocent until proven guilty, no?

And they don't pay council tax (BOO)And Charlie if they want to live out of the system why the hell should the system (ie us normal taxpayers) pick up the tab. I have no problem with them if they want to abide by the same rules as the rest of us but the majority don't where I live it like a battlefield for metal collectors by 7am each day do you think they pay their tax on that. Do they ****

The richest people in my road are.... the gypsies. Constantly arriving in new cars and quads for the kids and motorbikes to play about on in the road without helmets on, firing up and down so fast (it's a 20mph zone).
They claim they need land for accomodation, but they could easily buy accomodation. It's all a scam for the easy life.
Notably they were given the option of moving to designated council provided traveller land, near conveniences and schools and hospitals/doctors (one of the reasons for needing accomodation was for "elderly infirm"). They refused (we are in the middle of nowhere - you cannot walk to a shop or even a pub from here).
And as far as I can tell, these are the nicest you'll ever meet - they are very friendly and apart from being busted for running a 200 plant hyrdoponics lab (just before it got reclassified) haven't contributed to crime in the area or done any damage.

That was a flippent comment not really ment to be taken seriously. I'm as tolerant as the next guy, however there are limits.
Walthamstow is enough of a dump as it is, myself and many others do their best to try and improve things, but living in caravans and turning the area into a tip, amongst other things are not helping. Infact it's ****ing selfish there philosophy on life and the way they live impacts on everyone else. You wanna live free, then **** off and do it where it doesn't bother anyone else.

How come you don't want them there? Have they done something unpleasant since arriving, or is contacting the council a preemptive move on your part?Last edited by SuperDanX; 16-01-2012, 19:43.

I agree, leaving rubbish everywhere, stealing from people and being a nuisance is an incredibly selfish way to live. And many travellers, unfortunately, live like that. But not all of them. There are always exceptions to the rule; travellers who, despite breaking into property, do so out of a certain necessity, not so they can trash the building, litter the area, and piss everybody off.

They are a pain in the ****ing arse, get them round my work place on an almost daily basis, usually after catalytic converters, but will take any metal.
We've got some camped down the end of the industrial estate just now as it happens, so they have been sniffing around.
However, i've learnt from my own experience to keep them at arms length. Be pleasant, but leave it at that, given half the chance they'll have you over in an instant. They work on intimidation and bully boy tactics, and I can give more than a few instances of the sort of stunts they try and pull.
There isn't an excuse for that kind of behaviour.
We've also got a static camp not far away, you've still gotta keep an eye on them, but because they live there, there is less emphasis on screwing over the locals.
