GAME.
Walk into store after pay day, think I will treat myself to Dead Space 3 finally, it's on offer ?29.99, brucie bonus.
Take to til.
Sorry were sold out.
Unbelievable.
Today.
Oh Dead Space 3 is still ?29.99, lets see if they have stock. Oh spot stock on shelf behind til, good good.
Take to til.
Here we go. Can I interest you in a pre owned copy? No you cannot because I have to buy an online pass. Ah ok. That's ?39.99 please....HOLD RIGHT ON.
It's labelled ?29.99. Ahh.
Those prices have changed now.
Why haven't they been changed on the shop floor then? And why can't you honour that price?
This is where he goes into a blurb which is all BS. I say, it ?27.00 new on game.co.uk, suppose you won't mind me using your free WiFi in store to buy a copy online? thus putting you out of business in the long run.
So I did.
****ing piece of ****e retail store doesn't know its arse from its elbow and I'm quite frankly fed up giving them second chances when the store is this ****e.
So that will be the last time i try to shop there.

?39.99!, my local game seem to have pushed up the price of all new release games to ?42. Strangely this seemed to coincide with all the indy's having gone out of business.
The manager guy that works in there is a real freak too he has that really fake friendly happiness about him and an unsettling giddyness, one to many pre-order upsellls have broken something in his head.

This is a dilemma I have, I want Bioshock Inifinite ASAP but Game have pissed me off too many times to pre-order there so I would order online but I'm always at uni in the morning so would miss the postie and if it's to sign for I'm stuffed until the next day. Probably will try Sainsbury's or Tesco and just pay the ?44.99 or whatever it is they charge for new games.

GAME are ridiculous, I can't see them surviving, in fact I haven't bought a game from there since their 'firesale' last year. I only really go in to see what new stuff is out, then I usually go find it much cheaper elsewhere!
Anyhoo, current irk be ants. It's easy when there are loads of them because you can follow their little lines and find their route into the house, but for the last couple of weeks there have been a mere handful of them in the living room, maybe one or two at a time, and it's so bloody frustrating not knowing their 'pattern' yet. It's not just my house, the whole estate gets them, I've got a feeling it's gonna be like Starship Troopers this year.

I've been spoilt by staff discount where I work too much to shop there anyway, but the only time GAME ever had my custom was for one of their exclusives. If somebody had approached me with that sort of price mis-match I would've conceded that the store had made a mistake and sold it for the advertised price, even though I didn't have to. GAME should understand that good customer service is as important as protecting their bottom line- they could've lost ?10 on that sale and had it eat into their margin, but all that trying to recoup that has done is strengthen the negative image that they've earned over the years and lost that sale (and any repeat custom) completely.
I'm quite surprised that some of the smaller chains like Grainger and Chips aren't represented down here, in the South. GAME's only high-street competition up until recently had been HMV and they were far too complacent for a really long time. Some healthy competition would hopefully force them to shape up and adapt.

Leeds - one of the UK's largest city centres. Bereft of anywhere that sells a new music CD I'm after.
HMV didn't have it as they knew nothing about it. This is because suppliers aren't trusting them anymore.
Went into two indie shops - but they are small and just don't have the floor space to stock everything. Unlike HMV who have acres of floor and put OLD BOOKS and SWITCHED OFF GAMES AREAS in it.
Stupid.

^Crap, innit? Jumbo's probably still the best in Leeds but it's more about tickets n' t-shirts these days. I always lamented the passing of The Polar Bear down the Grand Arcade, that was such a sweet music shop.
Tell you what, there's a guy who does a CD stall on Wakefield outdoor market, think he's there Tuesdays and Saturdays - he gets some proper good stuff in and can get hold of some quality stuff if you have a word, he's been going years and he's a cool bloke.

I just wonder where the high street's gonna head in terms of gaming, everyone's got consoles but there's hardly any f*cking places to buy games anymore, at least on foot! It's really sad but an inevitability, I guess.
One funny thing I've noticed is a chav/immigrant gaming subculture, I go in places like Cash Converters quite a lot and there are still plenty of folk buying PS2 games, and I spotted an Eastern Bloc-looking bloke spending a tenner on 80p PS2 games at CEX for his son (sadly, one of them was Kengo...)! I like all this, I'd love to buy a cut-down PS2 with an HDMI input/output, it'll never happen though!

HMV were about the best of the middle ground but never really decided if they wanted to get in to selling game stuff really seriously they probably could have been the best specialist game store if they split the stores properly. Ho Hum Amazon or ShopTo for the win I guess (Or my ace local Indy as I'm one of the lucky few to have one near even stocks AES, PCE, MD etc
)
