Santa Clause is semi religious if you think about it, he's used as a controll method over the young and impressionable much like religion is, What we as parents are doing by perpetuating the myth of Santa is conditioning children to believe in a mythical being that will reward them if they behave well or punish them if they behave badly.

"you better be good or you will end up on the naughty list" could quite easily be replaced with "you better be good or your going to burn"

the rewards are a bit different with Christmas though, Starwars Lego, and Barbies instead of 17 Virgins.

Really I was trying to explain how stupid I looked pulling that Scrooge reference on Shaffy_oppa, when their religion being a reason didn't even occur to me.

All the big supermarkets etc have seen the success of the Coke Christmas ads though and gone all out this year, must admit the Sainsburys one during the war was great and the penguin toy one wasn't bad either, is all good news for the TV channels as the Saindburys ones must have been five minutes long.

            I blame John Lewis!

I actually think the Sainsburys one is a little tasteless.

Thank you. Apparently you and I are the only people that think this. I work in marketing and our clients all loved it.

Using the Great War to sell packets of mince pies ?.? ffs lol.

I guess having a massive Japanese influence in our house we don't really talk about Santa.

Plus I want her to know I buy the presents so she better damn well appreciate them.

I never quite got that. I enjoy giving gifts and its beyond me why anyone would want all the credit given to someone mythical.
