Well yes, it is just them vs us but the thing that defines them and us (in this case, and many other conflicts) is religion. What you say about people in other countries siding is something that actually happens. Because of religion. Not saying ending religion would end all conflict but it would end a great many of them.

Is it because of religion or because of labelling it as being religious? They aren't the same thing and this is my point - sure, you can remove religion or you can stop labelling it as religious which would make it harder for others to support conflict that really has nothing to do with them. Both are difficult but the latter seems a touch easier than the former. Just my own personal opinion of course and one that is tainted by finding so much misunderstanding on the Northern Ireland conflict in years gone by so not an entirely objective opinion either.

Religion is like a big plank of wood. Depending on who's holding the plank, it can be used for different things. Like a shelf or a weapon to bonk someone on the head or to fix a dodgy fence.

But then that someone gains a following and suddenly there's a bunch of people who just want to make shelves getting bonked on the head by their fence-fixing enemies.

        Yeah...

Fences are the one true use of planks. I find your depictions of shelves offensive.

Ha ha, ain't this the truth. If we could all just agree on everything, conflict would be a thing of the past!

A question, are the Palestinians forcibly kept in the gaza strip or can they leave? I've always wondered this, if your facing so much persecution from such a superior fighting force then why not just leave the area?

Many do. They're refugees and most have nowhere to go except refugee camps. Leaving your home and your entire life isn't as simple as "why not just leave the area?" Would this be your solution if someone decided the UK belonged to them?

                  The Summer

I don't care how many millions of people love it, it is without doubt the worst time of year. I've now spent a huge chunk of my time off work beyond ill thanks to it. It sucks on a thousand levels. Truly the worst bit, is hearing people moan about how cold it is all year round and then when summer does hit 'my god, it's too warm!'. Instant candidacy for natural selection. Hate it with every fibre. Winter for the WIN.

You should write to them and ask. Using these exact words.

Not at all, I was just asking if it was an option for them. In an ideal world Iran would simply leave them alone, unfortunately we live in quite a selfish one, that is also meddled with by other powers. Throw in the religious arguments in the region and you have one blender full of ingredients that will probably never mix.

After reading back though this thread everything has already been discussed so I'm bowing out of this one, it's a complicated subject that none of us have an answer for, nor any power whatsoever to change a thing about it.

They'd have the choice of going to Israel...Egypt (closed border) or the sea!

I wish there was a way to instil all the knowledge of all the world's religions into everyone. Then everyone would see everything for what it is and we could all move on and concentrate on fighting each other over other trivial matters.

Reading back through everything I'm not sure that we (us lot) can solve middle east issues. Can we try to fix something else? Something simpler.
