My current irk is a viral illness that has been with me for 3 weeks now, im currently a 1 man bisto factory and it's still not shifted so i have spent all morning sat in the doctors getting stabbed with needles & prodded all over, because im dehydrated all my veins collapsed so my arms now look like that of a junkie. Not a good look for summer, on the plus side im not in work so that leaves me with time to game.

Hmm a perk at the end of my irk.

My laptop battery has died.

Is it recommended to buy only official replacements or will a generic style battery be OK?

I always go official with laptop batteries but I've been lucky with good deals on Ebay - you have to be very careful it's a genuine part.

As for Arcades the one on the main seafront at St Ives is not too bad, a lot of relatively good condition big cabs and sitdowns. Was just therr last week with the wife and kids.

After working my butt off for 8 years (and a few years ago finally getting a promotion), I've been told today where I'm at is pretty much as far as I can go.

I had been working towards hopefully gaining complete management control but now that's not happening.

Soul destroying as I now look at my job and feel it's all been for nothing (barring the money of course). Where I'm at is not where I want to be for my future. The progression was motivating me as it was the perfect job for me.

The jobs I've had I crawled my way to where I've gotten, and the thought of starting over now is making me miserable.

@nakamura: I'd only go for official or another reputable company's battery that isn't a knock-off. I think Uniross make compatible batteries. I'd trust theirs over a fake any day.

Stop trying and you'll just end up a lifer where you are. Can you not look to move sideways into another company or similar?

I could try, but not very likely. The job is one I've built myself into. With no qualifications in management the only thing I have is experience here. I more than likely wouldn't be able to stay as I am after the next 12 months anyway as my job is being seen as pretty much disposable now.

It's a bit of a damned if I do/don't scenario as the work I do has turned things around so much that they're willing to sell off the development I handle and there would be no role to go to when it's completed. I've even requested a "challenge" and move to something else in the company in hopes my good work would influence them but they're spewing empty promises and avoiding any discussions I wish to have.

I think moving on is probably my best bet, but the uncertainty and difficulty of doing that after 8 years is worrysome. Not to mention, the money I make would probably go down and I couldn't afford a pay cut as I'm supporting my partner and I for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't worry, I think that moving companies is actually often the easiest way to get a pay rise sometimes. Being able to present yourself in a way fresh to someone new can actually be beneficial.

Yep, I agree with Boris and I'm a guy who spent 15 years or so in the same place (I like my ruts, they're comfortable). That can work well to a point but often the bigger jumps happen when you move from place to place. People take you for granted when you've been somewhere a long time. You'll have built up a whole lot of experience that could well be valued much greater elsewhere.
