Yeah, a warning wasn't necessary in your case Neil. I've updated guidance.

In my experience, rather than being offended, kids love swear words more than anyone else.

@Neil, sorry guv. I wasn't claiming you were trying to avoid the filter; I was just trying to explain how it works :-)

Personally, I'm sure we can get by without swearing as even if you swear in every day conversation, you have to think about typing it in, so it can be avoided. We mostly adults on here, but you can choose how you wish to present yourself.

Saying that, there was a great letter in Viz:
They say that swearing is the sign of a limited vocabulary, but I help write the Oxford English Dictionary and I swear all the bastard time, so it shows what they ****ing know.
          (Pardon the bleeps)

However there's a lot of humour to be found in inventing new swearwords like Red Dwarf's "smeg", Battlestar Gallactica's "frak" or Gunrock's "frunkin'".

The DVD of Shaun of the Dead has a "TV Version" as an extra. "It's four 'o' clock in the funking morning!"

Anybody remember Harry Enfield's TV-friendly gangster movie, Badfellas? "Are you funning my wife?"

Or Father Ted's "I'll call the fupping man!" Brilliant.

Lol the thing is I am proper sweary in real life I honestly have to watch everything these days I have already managed to teach Chloe the S word & then this morning I managed to teach her "Oh Crap" I'm just glad she hasn't picked up on anything else yet.

I'll have to remember for future now.

But in all fairness it's much better here than if you do this stuff elsewhere...I reckon the AV Forums mods would have dragged me over hot coals for anything like this.

Ok, the avatar's getting changed to something fabulous, friendly and lovely.

I know why this swearing filter thing is being taken to extremes anyway.

                    It's either because:

                    a) I said the flash should be black.

                    b) When reading the film news I usually put '**** you *insert film studio* for remaking a film I consider good or 'this film is ****' in the review section.

                    or possibly.

                    c) I told sketch to go **** himself jokingly when he posted Shenmue news.

**** is a very impressive movie score.

I'm pretty good at tailoring my language to the company I'm keeping at the time, not that the company I'm with ever show any ****ing gratitude for that.

I can't be the only one who thinks the thread "Valuation thread - how much is ***** worth?"

and thinks it says "valuation thread - how much is my **** worth?"

That's what I thought it meant anyway.

I think more swearing will increase traffic to the forum.

Traffic and swearing go hand in hand.
