I mean it says it all when they are pretending to protest oil but DRIVE IN A CAR to go protest it, or bus it in London, using OIL.

Just throw yourself off the life ride now you idiots and do the planet a favour.

I'll be honest, lads I'm a bit unsure about this.

On one hand, I think attacking things that people love is a bit of a mistake and people instantly think attacks like this are vandalism and don't help your cause, plus it's a goldmine for the tabloids, screaming "JUST LOCK THEM UP" on their front pages.

However, I also think that we need a bit of perspective.

Firstly it wasn't spray painted, it was cornflour that washed right off.
It's raised people's awareness, even if they're talking about it in a bad way.
People are getting more upset that a bunch of ancient stones need washing, rather than we're destroying our planet.
The stones will last longer than the human race the way we're carrying on.
We really do need to stop our reliance on oil, both for the planet and the hold it has on governments.

      Bonus moans:
People think Stonehenge was like that since the dawn of man. It wasn't, it was adjusted and concreted in place in the early 1920s and stood back up again in the 1950s.

Also, it's not technically a henge, which normally doesn't have any standing stones, it's a "stone circle" that has standing stones.

There's an issue with Microsoft today, where they're thinking a Crowdstrike update (an MS company) has made loads of cloud servers bluescreen.
The result is the biggest worldwide server outage in history.

        Affected so far:
        Sky News off the air
        CBBC off the air
        NHS Doctors can't make appointments
        Stock exchange is closed
Some emergency services can't be contacted
Flights grounded: England, N. Ireland, Switzerland, Japan, Czech Republic, Germany, India, N. America, New Zealand, Holland
        Trains halted
        Shipping container terminals can't ship.
        Paris Olympics IT systems affected
Two hospitals in Germany cancel non-emergency operations
        UK Pharmacy services disrupted
        Morrisons having payment problems
        Ladbrokes reports problems

Airports, banking and healthcare were all hit when a Crowdstrike update triggered huge Microsoft outages.

You could argue some of those services are unaffected

Superb photo's in that article, the first sentence though "The underwater caves of the Yucatán Peninsula" made me think of Ian Dury - Hit me with your rhythm stick.

An international team has confirmed the discovery of a super-Earth orbiting in the habitable zone of a nearby Sun-like star. The planet was originally detected two years ago by Oxford University scientist Dr Michael Cretignier. This result, drawing on over two decades of observations, opens a window to future studies of Earth-like exoplanets that may have conditions suitable

Definitely think that the Trump/Zelensky will be a pivotal moment in what happens in the next few years.

This thread is now 7 years old - Let's do a whistlestop update on some of the stories from those years:

                            World's Oldest Person
The title for World's Oldest ever person is locked in as Jeanne Calment, a French supercenterian who died in 1997 at the age of 122. The current world's oldest person is Inah Canabarro Lucas who is 116 years old. In the opening post, Nabi Tajima was the title holder but he passed away shortly after the thread began.

                            Titanic
In 2020 a salvage firm won the rights to cut into the wreck to recover a Marconi machine. The recovery has yet to happen with a legal challenge and the pandemic halting plans.

                            Plasma Fusion
Three years on from fusion being accomplished, China have announced plans to begin construction of a reactor

Testing on liquid metal robots continues
Real-life 'Terminator' robot can squish through gaps and gobble up objects

                            Amelia Earhart's Plane
Extensive searches have been carried out on the located object and have turned out to be... rocks

Scientists find new but tentative evidence that a faraway world orbiting another star may be home to life.
