How does that go in Canada? We have 50 percent engagement at best in the UK, which makes a lot of the work we set a bit pointless.

Kids have been in a out of isolation since the start of the term, and are still expected to work.
Last year the education minister told all the kids they had already passed, so there was minimal engagement. If she pulls the same **** again, we'll be even more furious with her.
Basically, if they want to pass and move on to the next course, they have to work for it. (it's a course-based system here)
I teach half in person and half online already, and my online kids are working hard online so there is no reason the others shouldn't. But I teach higher performing classes this year so it's not a great overall picture.

Sounds similar to here. We have already told ours that we dont have exams in Wales. They all celebrated obviously but there will in fact be class based assessments that will be externally marked...exams basically.
However, we have no idea what shape they will take and what to teach and assume coursework will still count for something, but that isn't guaranteed. We also don't know when to expect details from the exam board. It's going well!

The Oxford COVID vaccine is beginning to lose some traction as the minds behind it admit manufacturing errors led to incorrect dosage during trials throwing up some questions and doubts about the viability of the trial results. Oxford says the issue has been corrected but with so many questions resulting in Oxford not knowing the reasoning behind their findings it now means that the composite final results could cause issues in the vaccine being cleared for use.
Last week to Government defended its methodology of how it hands out government contracts. This is further backed up following news that Matt Hancock granted his former neighbour a contract for millions of COVID testing vials despite the neighbours company having zero experience in the production of them and the request having been submitted to Hancock via a Whatsapp message.

Typical, they're finally about to release a film I'd watch and all the local cinemas will be closed in Tier 3. I'd be astounded if cinemas contributed meaningfully to the Autumn second wave.

It makes a bit of a mockery of it all to tighen the tier restrictions, place most of the country in the highest bands and then switch it off for Xmas. Given cases have levelled off and not meaningfully declined it leaves the door wide open to Lockdown 3 in January/February when numbers inevitably rise

Tier 3
Closed: Bars, clubs, cafés, restaurants, hotels etc., indoor entertainment and tourist venues.
Open: All shops (inc. essential and non-essential retail), indoor and outdoor markets and car boot sales and personal care (tattoo parlours, hairdressers, beauty salons, nail salons, spas, beauty services, massage parlours and tanning salons).
So, basically, you can mix with anyone at pretty much every single type of shop, buy a lovely dress, get your nails, hair, tattoo and tan done, but can't go anywhere to show it all off!
I just don't understand how two stringent lockdowns and a world-beating £12bn track & trace system hasn't beaten this yet?

Basically, places to eat/drink are closed, as are hotels etc., indoor entertainment and tourist attractions.
We can only meet other households in outdoor public spaces like parks, where the rule of six applies.
So let's get creative!
Let's order a Domino's Pizza to be delivered to IKEA, where we can all meet up, then head down to Curry's to watch a film on their massive tellies!
