Pretty sure that's a non-sequitur, that happened on 11th December, Covid-19 doesn't have a seven week incubation period.

Here he is, the bloody sell-out!
Drinking his Captain Tom gin whilst wearing his Captain Tom Fleece, just before jetting off on his free holiday!
He's probably banging groupies twenty years younger!
Granted, that would make the groupies 80, but I'm sure that's something we're all jealous of and picture ourselves doing.
80 year olds.
Picture it.
You and the 80 year olds.

SA variant cases in UK "found with no known links to travel or previous cases".

Why is this important? Because this variant is more resistant to the vaccine: https://www.reuters.com/article/heal...-idUSL1N2K42SC and if there's a few cases of community spread given it is better at spreading itself there's going to be more of it, which wouldn't be very good news.

However, it's possible for the mutations to spontaneously happen that produce the key changes that make it the same strain, as the article above shows, some changes don't impact the pathogenicity, virulence, immunogenicity, some do and it's these changes that make it a new strain. What I'm not clear on is if these tests look at the entire genome, or particular parts of it that indicate strain variance, so it's unclear if this is the same strain with a different lineage or not.Last edited by MartyG; 02-02-2021, 07:38.

Ever the politician, VD passing the blame for the Irish border **** up.

VD's press offensive to avoid any blame whatsoever for the woeful EU vac prog continues, to the surprise of no one familiar with her litany of failure.
This time it's because the UK acted too fast. Her bitterness and self serving attitude is really not needed given the situation, but is no surprise whatsoever. A scumbag politician is a scumbag politician.
(I'm surprised our politicians actually went with Brexit tbh...Europe is the well paid end zone for failed politicians, and we sure do have a lot of them.)
And the UK variant has mutated again, no real surprise in that, but interesting that it's that E484K as seen in SA / Brazil variants.
Edit - Few bits of promsing news re OxAZ vac
And RIP Captain Sir Tom Moore.Last edited by wheelaa; 02-02-2021, 18:19.

Oh, triple post, but hey ho.
Lots of encouraging vaccine related developments.
Possible reduction of transmission. Good news around the UK approach to delaying the second jab.
As results show the Oxford jab may cut transmission, the health secretary says it offers a "way out".
Some confidence in future vaccines / speed of development.

Latest updates: Chief medical officer warns that cases are still very high; 1,322 further deaths reported in the UK today
Dido Harding defends the UK's border policies by saying no-one could have foreseen COVID variants would emerge.
It's almost like she's an unfit incompetent moron put in a role she's completely unequipped or suitable for.
