This is one of the illnesses at the core of most if not all religions.
You've missed the point. Any religion can be true religion. Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, it doesn't matter. True religion is every religion and no religion.

You're already all over the shop.

The idea that there is a true religion says very clearly that there is also untrue religion (you already started to police it in your first post). This is dangerous. People have been burned alive for that nonsense. You're illustrating a huge part of why religion has been historically terrible by coming in saying what religion is or isn't - the act of thinking you're in a position to do that is the problem.

It's not an idea. That's what you don't understand. People are burned alive because of ideas. What we're discussing is beyond thought (and so by definition beyond words because words are merely thoughts made manifest) therefore it is a difficult subject to talk about without confusion.

It's a difficult subject to talk about because people take a bunch of made up stuff, think they're experts in it and then come in declaring what's true or not true.

To bring it back to the topic, this problem alone isn't going anywhere. Even if we moved on from what we would currently call religion, it manifests all the time in different ways. People blindly worshipping a knob like Elon Musk. People buying into far fetched conspiracy theories and so on. So much of it is about wanting to believe there is order to the chaos. That there is reason where, often, there is none. That we're really the special ones who know more. That we get it. It's a huge part of humanity and it's seen all over the place.

We're a long way off moving away from that.

I'd burn you alive for thinking like that.

Yeah, I'd go as far to say as we never will. Participation in organised religion goes right to the core of who we are as human beings, and, as you rightly point out, there are lots of groups that we might not consider religions, but actually function in very similar ways. It might sound silly on the surface, but if you look at something like Bitcoin and the devotees around it, there are lots of religious tropes there.

So even if we see a diminishing popularity for a big one like traditional Christianity, there will always be plenty taking its place.

It feels like the discussion leans to religion would continue but adapt to the world changes over time. That though proves the falseness of all religious beliefs, rules and doctrine as they're all fluid manmade constructs and should therefore be abandoned.

It's part of the difficulty in first world attempts to respect the religious beliefs in others. In many cases to do so would mean turning a knowing blind eye to huge waves of discrimination and abuse.

Will you abandon all laws too? They too are fluid, manmade constructs after all. Paedophilia, slavery, anti semitism, homophobia and numerous other acts of hatred were all legal at one time or another. The ancient Greeks loved bumming children. Curse the rules that stopped all that!

This will not end well. Nothing ever does these days. I wish it was back in 2006. I think we're too old for this shid, these days.

Because the moment somebody who comes in an expresses an alternate opinion (ie. Zen) immediately gets made to look a bit of a silly billy for believing what he does. But if you think about it, he's one of the coolest, nicest peeps on here.

I don't like the 'all pile on' aspect to the forum, these days. It just makes me a tad angry when I see others being belittled, especially the good ones.
