Yep, it could go either way but even if this was set as a social event in the end it's night and day from what Johnson has done. This feels literally like a local election play that because the Tories fumbled so hard in the results we've got to dial up the anti-Starmer propaganda. It's stupid anyway as even if it resulted in him stepping down or being removed that would leave no defence left for Johnson and just double the partygate issues for him.

In this scenario, Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister has been handed a fine for breaching lockdown laws.
There's been a concerted effort to ensure that Starmer is smeared too.
Anyone using the "they're all as bad as each other" line is only going to use it as an excuse to carry on voting the way they always have.
It's fascinating to hear so much emphasis being put on Starmer.
He criticised the Government and Johnson of breaking the rules, but the focus is not on Johnson lying and breaking the law, but Starmer's position being untenable and must resign.
They're not "all the same", and that way of thinking only benefits those who seek to turn any criticism away from themselves.

Latest updates: Labour leader promises to resign if Durham police fine him; deputy Labour leader also says she will quit if issued with FPN
Rumour is that within the day Starmer will say he will resign if the police fine him, inflicting damage on Johnson if he ends up going and winning points if he doesn't.

Either way this goes, it doesn't work out for the Tories. Either Starmer is found to have done nothing, in which case it shows him in a good light, or he resigns which makes Boris and the rest look like arseholes.
