UK IX: This Economy Will Self-Destruct In...

The media, some businesses and the country in general seem to have reached a level of embarrassing absurdity in their efforts to show 'respect' for the death of the Queen which surpasses even what we experienced after the Princess Of Wales' death.
My mother was of the same generation as the Queen, had been to garden parties at Buckingham Palace and was a traditionalist and royalist. She was appalled by the collective, uncontrolled emotional incontinence, fueled by the media, that sad event provoked in a worrying percentage of the population. She felt it was a very unBritish and improper, almost disrespectful way, of dealing with such matters.
This time it is getting even worse; the Center Parcs fiasco in particular defies belief as businesses go bonkers in a desperate virtue signalling attempt not to offend the supposedly entirely grief stricken population of the UK.

As an outsider these days, the UK is a f*ing joke, what with the government, fule prices and now this bull****. WTF?
To be fair, I don't see that as any less ridiculous, but I couldn't see an obvious answer online.

It's particularly frustrating for me because I'm trying to shield my missus from proceedings as much as possible, I don't want it to bring up bad memories of her folks passing. I was hoping we might be able to go shopping or something, but as it stands I'm really running out of options. I don't think it's fair to make the entire country bathe in grief like this.

I mean, the timing, that's frankly stupid. With everything going on, and decades of service for many, they could've given it a few weeks. Not gonna defend that one iota.
But in the broader view, you wonder what they should do in that situation even if they'd been more considerate. I mean, the Queen is dead and presumably you've got to either lay off her staff or that of the new monarch, or you've got to enter consultation with both and merge the two households, but either way, you're gonna lay off a bunch of people.
This is kinda unique because there aren't many situations in this day-and-age where your job is dependent on the lifespan of an individual.
